Been considering getting an ultrasonic cleaner .. there’s a couple of 6 inch basin size online for around $30. Would a 110
Or 112 get completely cleaned if not able to open the blade inside the unit? Would the detergent and waves affect the wood scales or brass bolsters? https://www.amazon.com/Ultrasonic-P...2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9zZWFyY2hfYXRm&psc=1
Anyone have another ultrasonic cleaner they would recommend if not the one above ?

I have an ultrasonic cleaner. Great on old carbs, cleaning tools and such around the shop. No harm to the metal but no idea what it would do to the scales. Dymondwood is more plastic than actual wood. Still, I don't think I'd try it personally.

I don't own an ultrasonic cleaner, and I doubt I would put one of my Buck knives in it if I did. You raise an interesting question, however. Maybe try it on some brass and wood parts/scraps and see what happens?

Just as another data point... I have used a small ultrasonic cleaner on quite a few nice fountain pens. It does a good job cleaning ink from the nib, feed, and internals. So far, it has not harmed any of the pens I have cleaned. I would expect the materials on a knife to be even more durable than a pen. But, of course, try at your own risk. If I had the cleaner with me were I am at the moment, I would probably not worry about cleaning my Buck's this way. If you were to try, you could use a process similar to what I do with pens, dump and refill with clean water until the water remains clear after the cleaning. Then, dry as much as possible and make sure to lube (or over lube) thoroughly to push out any remaining water and not let it sit in the crevices for an extended period. Also, distilled water may be preferred over tap water as it would have less minerals.

Per the cleaners at my work, often ultrasonic cleaning uses a soap solution. Do not use deionized water, it is less effective. Materials should be held in a basket off the bottom of the cleaner.
