I had L2P for two years and yesteray lost it.
Apparently too shallow pockets.
Ooh-kay, time to get new toy ))
I dont need to walk my dog anymore… shes died last year, was 14 years old:(
so its more for EDC-ing
I want compact and bright flashlight, with pocket clip preferably.
What will you say about Nitecore Extreme? any opinions?

I just ordered a p2d CE and it should arrive tomorrow so I can try giving you my thoughts about it then.

I have a Fenix P3D, and I love it. If you wanted to go a bit smaller, you could always get a Fenix P2D. I'm sure UnknownVT will be on this thread later and will probably have some good recommendations for you.

I'm looking really hard at the Nitecore as well at the moment. I have an ARC "AAA" on my keychain with no complaints, but it sounds like you want something more. My Surefire E2D Defender has been a huge let-down. Its twisty tailcap has been only so-so, until it stopped working altoghter about two months ago and it took about 7 weeks to get a replacement. Now that I have it, it still doesn't work. Based on opinions on Candlepowerforums, it might just be a simple bulb, but I'm not sure if I'm going to bother buying one as I find it's simply too pricey to use with the two CR123 batteries and a maximum running time of about 75 minutes. With the new Nitecore, you're getting many, many times more runtime with one AA battery. That's a huge savings over the lifespan of the light. Good luck.

Here is what I carry ----its a beauty and has two light bulbs, with a lanyard.

Surefire L1, E1B or Novatac 120 are all good choices as well. One cell, but an expensive one sometimes.

lenny, have you checked out the olight T10? about the same size as a P2D, but doesn't cost as much. it isn't quite as bright, though, or as attractive. if you want smaller, the fenix E0 is tiny and cheap. you can get rechargeables for everything.

I've been carrying a BITZ lately.

It is supposed to be good with rechargeable RCR123 batteries, but I use primaries.

I like it. Different from the ever-poplular Fenix lights. too. (A plus in my book.)

Clips aren't that great for flashlights - probably because they are cylindrical and therefore somewhat thick - whereas most knives are relatively flat.

Since you had a Fenix L2P - it might be worth thinking about a combination.

Try a Fenix Digital L1D Black Premium Q5 Smooth (also available in olive) @ $60 shipped - it has 3 brightness levels the max being 120 lumens - this is brighter than the at one time "devastatingly bright" SureFire 9P (I'm talking about the 3x CR123 lithium xenon) and about TWICE as bright as the 2x CR123 xenon lights like the SureFire 6P, G2 and Streamlight Scorpion..... all this running on a single AA battery. On low it's still 12 lumens and will run for 25 hours - that's amazing.

However the beauty of the Fenix "D" series is that one can buy the L2D 2xAA Black Spare Body and Tailcap @ $24.50 and run the L1D head as a 2AA light (Fenix L2D-Q5 Comparison Review ) - or even the P2D 1x123 Black Spare Body and Tailcap @ $23.50 and have a single CR123 light - so in effect getting 3 lights in one.

Using AA batteries - they are cheap and commonplace - rechargeables can be used to be even more economical and "green" - aim to use Low self-discharge NiMH battery (LSD) such as eneloops - or Kodak Pre-Charged are easily and cheaply available from WalMart @ $8.47/4

For much smaller flashlight that can easily be EDC'd try the single AAA Fenix Digital L0D Q4 Olive Finish @ $46.50 shipped - again 3 levels of brightness with the max being 75 lumens - that's brighter than the L2P (rated at 46 lumens) - and a low at 11 lumen with a runtime of 8.5 hours - again use LSD NiMH rechargeables eneloop or the AAA Kodak Pre-Charged @ $3.96/2 at WalMart. Fenix L0D-Q4 Comparison Review.

The L0D-Q4 does come with a pocket clip and being AAA the tube is perhaps not too thick - personally I attach a short lanyard and carry it in pocket, the light is easy to locate and retrieve using the lanyard.

Whatever you choose, you should really also have a Photon 2 (or clone "fauxton") on the keyring, as an easy to carry backup.

Hope that helps.

and thank you coolcrow for the kind words

thanks for elaborate review!
Ive handled L1D, nothing wrong about it, just switching between the modes isnt very intuitive.
thats why I mentioned Nitecore extreme - they advertise it has continuous brightness change

It's what one gets used to I guess.

The Fenix LxD series work this way -
head fully screwed down - Turbo Mode: 120 lumens (1.5hrs) -> Strobe
Head slightly unscrewed - General Mode: 12 lumens (25hrs) -> 53 lumens (5hrs) -> 107 lumens (2hrs) -> SOS

So one can just use it as a two mode flashlight by simply twisting the head to get lowest to highest levels. In general mode a simple tap of the tailswitch (momentary Off) moves it to the next brightness level and eventually to the SOS - but since that is the very last in sequence - it can be mostly avoided.

The turbo mode is kind of useful for drawing attention - being the brightest level, and if waving the light doesn't do it - esculate to the strobe by a single tap on the tail-switch.

If you're interested in continuous brightness levels - the new JETbeam-1 MK IBS maybe worth looking at - it has three pre-sets that can be pre-programmed to any level of brightness or any of the strobing modes - again to change to the next pre-set is simply tapping the tailswitch.

I've been using a LumaPower IncenDio for a while and I like it. It's very compact and has three levels of light.

It's not perfect, but I can usually get the amount of light i need and since it's so compact and light I usually have it with me. I added an other clip so i can clip it on the bill of my cap for hands free use.Patrick

Consider the following

AAA light - Fenix L0D Q4

AA Lights

Fenix L1D Q5
Fenix L1T V2 Q2 if you want a simpler 2 mode light
Wolf Eyes Angel A

1 CR123A Light

Surefire L1
Surefire E1B
Fenix P2D Q5
Wolf Eyes Angel C

I can recommend the Surefire E1B Backup. 4" long with a trick pocket clip that allows pocket carry or can be stuck on a cap without changing the position of the clip.

Low is bright enough and runtime is a reported 37 hrs.

High is, well...plenty. 80 lumens with good throw and an hour and a half runtime. It'll light up a man-sized object at a hundred yards better than a 6PL.

That's a little misleading on Nitecore's part. What they mean is that you can program x number of levels from a continuous range. It does not allow you to scroll up and down a brightness range like the SureFire Titan or the Gatlights. That being said, the Nitecore is still a good light and I would recommend it just as much as the Fenix line.
