Umfaan for daily carry?

I was wondering how many of you carry an Umfaan as a daily carry knife? People talk about it's limitations due to size but I haven't really found any. I usually carry a larger knife, but find that most of daily urban Homo Sapiens sapiens chores are performed with the Umfaan. I started carrying a Large Sebenza, then got a small Sebenza, now I carry the Umfaan. Now I just wish the Reeves would make a knife that has a thin blade stock like the Umfaan, but is between the Small Sebenza and Umfaan in profile size. Something that is still a true pocket knife (slim, no clip), but a little longer and wider. I won't hold my breath!

Anybody else carry an Umfaan daily (or at least weekly)? Are you satisfied with it's usefulness despite the small size?

Them:"What's that clipped to your pocket, a beeper?"
Me:"Uuh....yeah, something like that."

Paul, count me as one that carries the Umfaan on a regular basis, I've the arrow one from 1999.

Agree also on a bridge knife between the Umfaan and Small Sebenza, with the point lower for more practical uses.

I have to wait until next month for my plain Left Handed Umfaan.

My first Sebenza was a Large. Then I bought the small and like it better clipped to my jeans back pocket. Then I ordered the Umfaan for pocket care and for the plain Zulu Trio.

I also ordered a small wood inlay Sebenza, but, I have to wait until October for that.

If I like the Umfaan, I might order a 2000 Umfaan when that comes out.

I carry mine daily, but usually use another knife for chores. Have confidencde it will stand up, but reluctant to use it on any thing but light work.
Actually, I would like to see a size between the small and large Sebenzas

I have an Umfaan question, do all the Umfaan's have dual thumb studs with the small cutout on the lock bar? I just got a Zigzag Umfaan today with dual studs.
ThomM I would also like to see a size between the large and small.
Thanks!

How many different sizes should he make?

I love my decorated Sebenza but in my coat-and-tie work environment, the Umfaan is the knife of choice, sometimes riding in my shirt pocket. It adequately takes care of most knife chores. The Sebenza rides in my briefcase, though I've rarely had to reach for it.

Matt, I've been told that all the Umfaans have the double thumbstuds, I find that in order to open mine I just sort of stick my thumb over it and let the thumbstud pin me and rotate the blade open, works best for me.

Just did a sharpening on my new 204 Sharpmaker with the Umfaan and the tip always gives me problems, have to resort to flat stones to do the tip properly to get the extra edge I'm looking for.

Up until recently, my carry knife was either a Benchmade mini AFCK or a Emerson custom CQC-7. A few months ago, the company I work for posted new weapon regulations; the maximum blade length allowed at work cannot exceed 2.5 inches. I have always wanted to buy a CRK so this was the perfect opportunity to check them out. I finally decided on an Umfaan because of the blade length. It arrived about two weeks ago. I can't seem to keep it out of my hands. It is by far one of the finest knives that I have ever owned. I still can't quit handling it. I assumed that I would use the Umfaan at work and then swith back to one of my other carry knives when I left the office. Hasn't happened. I now carry the Umfaan all the time. So far, the Umfaan has handled every cutting task that I've run across. I now understand why you people are so zealous when speaking of CRK products. I'm looking forward to getting a small decorated Sebenza next.

I would love to buy an Umfaan for daily carry. Mostly because of the small blade: minimal shock to the public and constabulary: maybe even airline security. But I really would prefer a clip. Anyone else think a clip would be a positive addition?

I would like to see a clip option for the Umfaan. There are times when I would rather have it clipped instead of riding around in my lint-filled pocket. Hint hint CRK.

I think a clip on a knife as small as the Umfaan wouldn't look right. When I get my Umfaan I'll get a William Henry pocket clip sheath if it fits OK. Yesterday when I stopped by Wright Knives, Dennis had a great selection of Umfaans including a couple Damascus blades. And he just recieved the William Henry sheaths but I didn't ask if any of them fit the Umfaan.

I think I might take a Sebenza clip, thin it out a little and put it on my ZZ Umfaan. The length of the clip seems to be ok but I am not looking forward to inletting the back handle to take the clip.
That clip sheath sounds pretty cool, anyone know where to see a pic of one on the net, or know of someone selling them on the net?
Matt

Yake,
Do you have more info or a link to that William Henry sheath?

Or you could just get Gary Graley to make you a belt sheath for you Umfaan. It's so small that you forget it's there. Depends on the dress code so to speak, but works great. Frankly I like my Umfaan because it does not have a clip. It would lose it's slim profile with a clip.

I think the Umfaan is great for just about any urban chore. If we let the laws turn on knives like it has on guns, knives the size of the Umfaan may be the new trend.
