Umfaan future?

Hello,

I'll apologize if this have been covered before, but I don't live here - I only stop by every few months.

Does Chris Reeve Knives have any future plans to re-release the Umfaan?

I find my Seb and Mnandi too large for office carry.

A scaled down Mnandi would be ideal, but ....

Any news you could pass along would be appreciated.

Thanks,
S.R.

According to the CRK website the Umfaan is being redisigned. I recently asked Heather at CRK about when the Umfaan would be back in production and she commented that she didn't know. She claimed to be leveling with me. She said there were so many projects going on that there wasn't a definite date for the Umfaan to surface to the top of the list.

I, like you, would like to see the Umfaan back in production.

:)

Thanks for the quick response.

Hopefully, the Umfaan returns to the market. I won't buy a NOS one on the secondary market for $550. But, I'd buy a new one from CRK for $300.

See you next year. ;-)

You will see a bunch sold before the price plummets. Personally, the Mnandi is already on the too small side for me. Sebs are what I like the best.

The Umfaan is a great knife! IMO, this is a great knife that would attract a LOT of WH collectors. It's just so darn cute, you can't NOT love it!
My only problem with it is that they shrunk the thumbstud down too much!
Personally, I'd suggest putting a bump on the blade and using a bigger stud. Maybe not a full size thumbstud, but a little bigger.

Umfaan was a good knife, not a great knife. Overpriced, and late in redesign. Benchmite & Spdyerco Dragonfly can fill that niche if CRK is unwilling to execute.

Feel better now that you've had your hissy?

You can buy a dragon fly and benchmite might right now, and they will be less expensive, why are you complaining?

I like the Umfaan. But, I'm responding to the original poster. Have bought both the Dragonfly, Ladybug, Byrd Robin and Starling. So, I don't miss the Umfaan, and whose complaining??? ;)

Can't help but notice you popping up in every CRK thread to put them down and promote Spyderco. The saddest case of Sebenza envy I've ever seen.

IMHO the Umfaan was the best knife ever made!
Please bring it back!

Can't have Sebenza envy for an Umfaan last time I checked. If I wanted a Sebenza or a Mnadi, would have bought one. Just calling it like I see it. I don't have to put somebody down to do it. ;) Be well.

Let's hope that they not only bring it back - but bring it back with some fun designs too! Especially colorful ones!

Back when the Umfaan was being made, I wasn't yet into knives. I feel I've missed out.
I find the Kershaw S30V Leek by Ken Onion fills the void *fairly* well; the blade even has the same finish, so it compliments the Seb rather nicely if you carry two knives. I respect Onion as a cutler but I must admit he caters to a different crowd than CRK; if nothing else he just doesn't have the same street cred. So add my name to the list of Umfaan hopefuls.
