I need to add a small gent's knife to my lineup. All you Umfaan carriers--let me know how you feel! What do you like about it? Does its size and construction make it feel ackward? Do you wear it on your keyring, in pocket, or in special leather sheath?

Have to like the Umfaan because of its size. Works just fine in a special leather sheath, like this

Sheath by G2, of course.

Or, it carries nicely in the provided leather slip sheath, but then you gotta' put the slip sheath somewhere while you use the knife . . . inconvenient for me.

I carry mine every day in the office in it's original leather pouch and as an additional knife everywhere else it fits great in the watch pocket of my jeans.

It is a small knife so the handeling is not as good as a full size knife in my larger hands, but it has the same tough characteristics of it's bigger siblings. The biggest advantages to me are that it does not raise an eyebrow in the office or in the case where it comes in handy when a larger knive might get someone in a tizzy.

My Umfaan sits in my shirt pocket or front pants pocket at the office inside of the provide pouch. I had problems with my decorated small Sebenza: several office employees freaked out when I thumbed it open once, and airport security made me register it to get to the plane - they said, "What are you doing with such a big knife?" I now carry the Sebenza in my briefcase for larger jobs, and the Umfaan's small blade is quite adequate for everyday chores, though it's not as useful or goodlooking as the Sebenza.

This is my second Umfaan. I lost my Zig Zag Umfaan, and I swore I wouldn't buy another expensive easy-to-lose small knife. But I missed it so much I had to buy a replacement, an indication of what a convenient knife it is.

Mine is an excellent "Dockers" knife, rides nicely in my pocket, and it's size doesn't attract much attention.

The smallish handle prohibits any really hard duty, but it's still great for smaller chores.

I think the thumstuds are a bit small and kind of pointy, but they are at least in proportion to the blade.

It's a great choice for a gent's folder- looks nice and is more sturdy than anything else in that size range that I've used.

You definitely wouldn't regret it if you got one, but just don't expect the same grade of utility of it's big brothers.

I also work in an office enviroment, and carry mine every day. It rides in my left pocket inside the original leather pouch. Easy to carry while wearing dockers or jeans.

As stated above it is a small knife, so the uses are more limited than the small or large Sebenza. The knife is very well built and has the same characteristics of the Sebenza's.

I agree that it's biggest advantage is the "No Fear" factor in the office or other enviroments. Most people upon seeing the knife in use will have positive comments. Many will inquire about purchasing, until you mention the price....

Highly recommended!!

ralphtt,

Whoa! What a beauty, what does it look like naked (don't get me wrong, as usual Gary's sheath is superb)? I love what I can see of the design on the Umfaan. I've been considering one of these, too.

Can we see another pic?
