Umm..guys?

That's a Darwin Award winner in the making.

Other than in a survival scenario, I think I'll pass.

Seems like an 18 in AK or GRS would do if you were looking to sever the spine, though.

I heard a bit about that from Hawaiians.

Yep. I met two guys who do it all the time (I didn't read your article yet, but I'm assuming...) with dogs.

Sarge posted pictures a couple of years ago, IIRC, of a colleague of his who did that. Might still be around. Don't have time to look now.

Can't find the pics, but the boy's name was Phil Wheeler, fine young man, killed his hog with a 12" Sirupati. And yes, you bet there was some well trained catch dogs holding that hog by it's ear and tail.

1-I'm not likely to be that crazy! :D

2-I'd probably use a Tibetan sword if I was to try this.

3-some of us might find this amusing,I sure did!!! :D

A biker friend of mine a long time ago used to say at times like these...
"If they wern't pussies, they'd do it on Harley (Davidson motorcycles)."

The top firearms defense attorney in NJ hunted wild boar in the Carolinas with a randal knife. He got one, too. He showed me the pictures. It surprised me. I never thought a person would go one on one with a boar. Dogs were used in the hunt. When the dogs had hold of the boar the hunter goes in and stabs the boar.

Thanks, Steve

I have a pig-sticker "in the works"...was supposed to go a big boar hunt this Feb. but it's not going to pan out with all the other stuff going on...:(

Yup, they're magically delicious! Back in HI my older brother and his friends used to go pig hunting with their dogs -- wild pig is, quite possibly, the best stuff ever.

I've got a couple of spears from Cold Steel (the full length shafted Assegai and javelin). The Assegai's about as close to a knife as I'd use for boar hunting. I'd bring a khuk as backup only, and it'd be a hell of a lot bigger than a 12" Sirupati.

I've a spear that might work, and one or two swords that would probably do pretty well also. Unfortunately, no boars and no dogs. Oscar was out mousing tonight but he claims he's not ready for boars. Some attack cat he turned out to be, huh?

Oh, well.

Barring spears, a M1913 saber would be about as close as I'd want to get. HI-wise, Napoleon or Tibetan all the way. (Or the 40" Ram, naturally. The boar would die of cardiac arrest before violence was required.) I'm quite secure in my masculunity, but not quite secure enough to take on boars with knives...at least, not without a good dose of bourbon ahead of time.

There is a custom knife maker that will make you a knife to do this with and set up the trip with a guide and everything as a package deal. I can't remember who it was though...

It's something I'd like to do someday.

Nova, I'll bet they are tasty!!!! :D
I've always imagined wild pig to be a helluva lot less fat and a helluva lot sweeter than farm raised pigs. Am I close at all?  ;)

I was telling my Barbie the other day about the fresh side pork mom and dad would buy at the market when it was in season. Mom would fry it up just to the point of crisp and it would melt in your mouth, and sweet! Oh m'gawd it was the sweetest tasting meat I ever curled a lip around!!!!!!! :D
I haven't seen it in the market for ages and ages it seems.:(

been a lot of wild boar hunting here in the UK recently. the animal rightists 'freed ' 100 of them from a farm near me recently, about 40 were recovered, a few were killed by cars and the cops shot a few more. there are still a few running loose i guess. wild boar meat, sausages, pate, is fairly common in the stores here (& really good!).

Larry's health has tanked recently...I'm not sure of his health status right now...anybody know?

I went on a boar hunt in Florida. Dude used three pit pulls. Those crazy ass dogs just grab the pig and won't let go. He was raising absolute hell too. Eventually he tired out and the dogs held him still and my buddy shot him with a 357 point blank. No knifing. Most amazing thing i'd seen.
