I knew it was going to be thick, and I'm totally fine with that, but wow...

they sooooooo weren't kidding when they named it the XXXXXL NICK.

razor sharp convex edge, clever weight, and pure awesome.

pics later once I'm home.

Well, crap.

All I've got is a lousy XXL Nick.

Of course, you can chop down a redwood with it, if you've got the time.:D:thumbup:;)

mine too (XXL), and yeah - aside from OAL it's (almost) every bit the chopper a BM is.

the raw heft was surprising somehow, even though I knew it was a big one.

Yeah it's a cool knife, I got one originally when they where offered for $165!

It's really only useful as a cleaver though, and the handle is kinda small and round for chopping.

According to Jerry, it was a mistake.

Thanks for the link, I had read that once but forgotten about it. Always wondered how/why a fat knife was made for kitchen use. :rolleyes: Sort of presaged the SAR5 episode, eh?

great story, thanks for that.

and $165? ouch. that hurts. ;)

I had no idea there were only 106 of them.

these camera pics pretty much suck (I have to get my real camera out soon) but it's what I have to work with at the moment (shown with others for size reference):

from thick to thin:

* XXXL NICK
* DSF
* BOSS Jack
* CG BWM
* CABS
* Culti
* Thin NICK

and a group shot (all Satin and Black Canvas except the CABS which still has the Black Paper), and including the INFI Kiridashi that Ban made:

thanks.

I'll work on getting better pics up. most all the ones I've taken lately are barely tolerable to me but my real camera is packed up and I've been busy/lazy.

;)

Cool nick, I need to get one for the kitchen someday

I've had Globals and Henkels and Shuns (and still have two Watanabes) and I think the Thin NICK is a fantastic everyday user that easily holds its own.

the XXXL is more like a cleaver/knife hybrid, and while I wouldn't want it to be my only kitchen knife - I think it'll be a great supplement to the Thin one.

the two NICKs and my Culti are now my everyday kitchen knives, and I'm pleasantly surprised by how well they work in that capacity.

I'll eventually get thicker hand-shaped Black Canvas handles on the XXXL but other than that I wouldn't change a thing.

Kitchen INFI, overkill but cool/fun.

That thing is cool, I am sure I could find plenty of uses for it. Thanks for sharing...:thumbup:

Yeah I bought my dad a ken onion shun 8" a couple of years ago and he loves it. I have a cheaper stainless Henckels set from years ago that I mainly use for utility knives, cutting frozen pizza, etc., and a saber knives set that is my go to for now. However, I find myself using the same 3 or 4 knives, so I might as well get a couple of nicks and some smaller infi slicers at some point that will last a lifetime:thumbup:
