Ummi is gritty

so I got my Umnumzaan last year, about 1 year right now
good year as I've enjoyed it a lot, my fav folder

checking it yesterday before putting it in the backback for the WE I've noticed that by opening/closing it it feels gritty, it has been lightly gritty from the beginning but blowing the ceramic ball area and some lube helped, was fine actually
it feels like the ceramic ball was moving on sand, I feel some "hhhhhh" on the lockbar
Don't have a take down tool so I cleaned the possible and the ceramic ball area with paper, tissues, oiled again but it stays the same, thought dome lint/debris was the cause but it's the same

no big issue, just wanted to see if some one has some idea on how to "fix it" or maybe it's "normal" due to the ceramic ball and some carry time
usual non takedown fixing didn't change things that much

will probably order a take down tool kit by the end of the summer anyways

thanks for the suggestions
Maxx

This happened to my Umnumzaan as well, it felt rough and made gritty sound when opened or closed. I was unable to find any foreign material or scratches on the blade or ceramic ball so I'm not sure what caused it and I'm not sure what fixed it either but it's all good now. It lasted for a while, maybe a week or so, and then stopped.
One thing I thought could be the problem was that the detent seems to run over the plunge line on my knife, I can only assume it wore in and then wore it's self out fixing the problem. It did seem to drag in that area but there was no obvious problem visible even under magnification.

sounds like mine exactly
relubed the ball area, still the same

seems that the line it draws on the blade is what makes the gritty sound
the ball is really on the border of the blade and the draws line is a hair from the end of the profile, more or less what you've said above

I have my first CRK - an Umnum on order. Really looking forward to it... 3-4 months can't pass fast enough. You know it's bad when "issue" threads just make you want the knife more.

long waiting time huh? but it will be worth
to get mine I saved for several months...

Szilard,
Had mine for a few months now ... and yep you are gonna love it when you get your hands on it.
Know you will find (like other owners), when you open the box, one fine tool...built to a high degree of precision...one that is tight and locks up like a bank vault ... don't get discouraged that (new out of the box) it won't just "snap" open like an auto ... it take time ... I dang near trashed my thumb nail breaking it in. Just keep "exercising" it. Once broken in, you will find that an easy flick of your thumb (like shooting a marble) will extend and lock the blade. Also be sure to order the CRK grease and a tool kit. There is nothing that I have found that works as well as their grease ... the fricking stuff is just some kinda slick on the Ti.
Know you are gonna treasure your new CRK.
Enjoy,
