I know this has been covered but I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. My brand new Umnumzaan came with about 80% lock up. I think I read that this is normal but it still worries me. Someone please ease my mind.

Completely normal. The ceramic ball changes the relationship (or appearance) of the lock bar seating.
You're good. Enjoy_

100% Normal. I have the same one as you and mine is aprox 80% too. Look at where the ceramic ball is with a flashlight.

I just want to agree with what has been said already. If you have a wee peek inside when the knife is opened you can see easily where the detent ball sits on the blade tang and how far away it is from the off side scale.
One other thing worth adding, is that the lock doesn't wear or travel any amount worth getting excited over at all. My Umnumzaan that has been carried and used every day for years now still sits at pretty much the same spot it did when new. (The lock settled in from new but hasn't changed from there).

One of the best EDC's I have ever owned and carried ;) Enjoy her with aplomb!

110% normal. I had a nice discussion with Mr. Reeve himself about this. Because of the contact point of the ceramic ball, lockup on a umnumzaan is in the 80-90% range, while the sebenza engages on the flat of the lock bar rather than the point of a ceramic ball, so sebenza norm is 50-75%. I pretty much asked Mr. Reeve the exact same question and he gave me a very thorough explanation of the frame lock design and how the umnumzaan differs from the sebenza. Its interesting to say the least.

I've had mine for over a year now, and the lock up hasn't changed--I can tell because the wear pattern that the ceramic ball leaves on the tang of the blade is exactly the same as the day I bought it.
