I know that the Sebenza is supposed to be tightened as much as possible, but is the same true for the Umnumzaanm? Mine doesn't want to work at full tightness for some reason.

The Umnumzaan does not have a pivot bushing like the Sebenza so you can over tighten the Umnumzaan pivot.

Note: The Sebenza 25 is the exception. It is like the Umnumzaan/Inkosi and does not have a pivot bushing. All other Sebenzas have the bushing.

That answers the question and puts me at ease. Thank you.

I don't think it's “as much as possible” but there is a mechanism to keep the scales a fixed width apart. I generally tighten a Sebenza to hand tight+1/8 turn more.

This is where the Inkosi/Umnumzaan/25 really shine. I can dial a perfect pivot action for me every time without having to send it back to CRK for an adjustment. Especially when you start using it and breaking in all the parts. The bushing will prevent you from being able to make any adjustment.
