Hi

I have a question about the Umnumzaan stop pin. It wears an o-ring. Has anyone ever lost it? Is it resulting in bladeplay?

Peter

The Umnumzaan was designed to lock up tight with or without the o-rings. The rings simply make the opening quieter.

I have removed mine many times and mine lock up with no blade play at all.

If you need replacements, the local hardware store should be able to help.

FWIW, the CRK rings are urethane, which is very, VERY durable stuff. The hardware/big box store rings are almost always neoprene, which is NOT very durable stuff. IIRC, there have been many posts over the years about removing them and having no problems.

I have an Umnumzaan from 2008, the first year they went into production. The o-rings are loose, stretched out a bit, I assume just from being pinched between the handle and thumb studs. They're nowhere near about to fall off, though. I don't imagine they ever will come off (without being taken off).

Hi.
If the O-rings are removed, are the studs still comfortable to push on...that is, do they feel sharp without the O-rings on them or not?
Thanks.
Jim

I took the O-rings off of mine because they got a bit loose. I like it better loud actually. thumb studs are still comfortable

I thought the O-rings fit a little loose from the get go and that they don't "smash" against the Ti slab but rather get pressed into the groove they sit within on the stud . . .

Regardless, such a great knife and one of the best EDC's I have ever carried for general purpose! I was without for a while because I "had" to use my last one for trade ammo into a knife that was harder to get but I just found a brand spanking new in box in S30V, sans that lock stabilizer but born on August 15, 2011 and it's in the mail on its way to me now. That is nearly a grail for me. In spirit anyway. S30V, no stabilizer but still a contemporary Umnumzaan.

It still has the Idaho Made stamp but I can live with that :D Yes, I'm stoked!

"IM"... ;)

FWIW...whatever you think about the IM logo on the Sebenza, at least in my opinion, the way it's used on the Umnu is much less noticeable. And, based on the difference between my very early Umnu, which moved on shortly after I bought it, and the 10/11 Umnu that I bought late last year, it's clearly (again, IMO) worth having the IM logo to get the improved tweaks that CRK has implemented since the Umnu was launched.

I'm glad to hear that the studs are still comfortable without the O-rings. Not that I plan to remove mine yet...but in the event they become loose, I will. Are they simple enough to remove without taking anything else apart? (I've never disassembled a knife, not even either of my CRKs).

My Umnumzaan arrived yesterday.
I love it!

I don't want to open a new thread but i have one more question. I changed the lanyard and while assembling I used the Loctite. I let it dry about two hours, then played a little bit with it and let it rest for the night. Was that correct? How long do you give it a rest?

Peter

That should be fine, as long as the threads were clean when you reassembled it and put the Loctite on.

Totally agree - I am neutral on that matter actually but if it weren't there is would be just a hair cleaner - no biggie though. I love Nevada too!
