Umnumzaan: Ceramic Lock Detent Mark

I had a very early Umnu that looked about like that (your picture seems to show a pretty deep line and dimple where the ceramic ball tracks and locks). I sold it, then eventually decided I wanted another (and bought a pair). Neither of the new ones looks anything like that.

You might consider phoning CRK next week and seeing if they'd offer you an opinion after looking at the picture (though a better-focused picture would be more helpful).

Non of the ones I've had look like that at all. Maybe its flawed blade steel/ heat treat! I would call CRK and see what they think.

Yikes...that looks pretty deep. Is the picture deceiving or this actually as deep as it looks? My unum and 25 both have a small groove but it's more of a polished area than a groove like this.

I have a similar line on mine, but it is not a groove, more of a polish. If yours is as deep as it looks I'd send it in.

My zaan and 25 are both similar, maybe not quite as deep (I can't remember), but deeper than I'm comfortable with. Honestly, I think the Sebenza's flat lockbar face is a better design in regards to wear longevity.

It is totally norman for the ceramic ball to scar the blade tang, all my umnumzaans look like that. It is just cold working the blade tang and I suppose one could also argue that it's being work hardened as well. If you're not happy just talk to CRK and they will no doubt make you happy. :)
