Hi Guys,

I'm not the CRK collector some of you guys are so I figured why not ask my questions to people who know better. I've seen Umnumzaans with "Idaho Made" written on them, some say "Umnumzaan" on the non locking scale and mine has no writing on it short of the CRK logo near the pivot. What are the differences? Different Time period?

You guessed correctly. A quick search will provide you with all the information you need. There is also a Wilson Tactical version, that has different milling on the handle scales.

Another "discrepancy" is that the older Umnumzaans do not have the pronounced thumbstud cutout that the newer ones do. The only thing it really does is make it more difficult to open with the opposite hand depending on the "handedness" of the Umnumzaan. (I have one of these older Umnumzaans, a left handed version, and it is difficult to open right handed using the thumbstuds).

TacticalBlade,

We need a bit more info to answer your question.

If it says "Idaho made," it's a newer version. If it doesn't have that stamp, it's likely an older version.

The newest ones have "Idaho Made" written on them, the oldest prototype models have "umnumzaan" written on them and the one you have with only the CRK logo was made in between.

Which one do I have the older or newer? thanks.

You have an older one. The knives that had "Umnumzaan" engraved on the lock side were protos IIRC. The newer made knives (not sure exactly when) have the "Idaho made" stamp, lock bar cut out and a hole for the detent rather than a dimple.

I personally prefer the older knives like the one you have over the newer ones, I have a couple of the older ones too. :)

Thanks guys. Sorry about the double post-ish. I couldnt see if it had actually posted or not and seemed at first to not have gone through but it did. Yes mine is plain with just the CRK logo on it. I dont really like the lettering on them. They have their following and thats all thats needed to sell the product. Not flashy or anything else just an all business knife.
