Howdy!

Quick question on the ergonomics of the Umnumzaan compared to the Large Sebenza and Large Inkosi...if you had to rank the three in order from best to worst what would the order be?

I have medium sized hands, and unfortunately I can not check out an Umnumzaan in person as no local stores have them. I currently have a Sebenza and Inkosi and wanted to grab an Umnumzaan online but needed some advice as far as the overall comfort in hand goes. ]

Thanks!

The ergos just do not work for me. Too many hot spots.

Interesting and thanks for the reply!

I second MessOnAMission. I have all three and medium-large hands. The large inkosi is the best for me.

Thanks!

Awesome :)

Beauties!

1. Large Sebenza

2. Inkosi

3. Umnumzaan

The 21 and Inkosi and both great but the Umnum has too many hot spots and the clip placement and lock bar cutout to release annoy me.

The 21 nudges past the Inkosi just a hair. The Inkosi added finger groove limits finger placement for me.

I have to agree with what others have said. I have Umnumzaans in both blade shapes. I like them, but don’t carry them very often because of all the hot spots. I like the ergonomics of the large Inkosi best followed by the large 21. I do carry the 21 most often, though. I love how quick and easy it is to take apart and clean the pivot and blade. Just one screw to take out and then put it back in and tighten it back up. No need to adjust anything.

Well thanks so much for the detailed response! I too find the Sebenza to edge out the Inkosi by a hair, seems like most folks place the Umnumzaan last! I did not expect that at all.

Thank you for the help! I am leaning towards not ordering the Umnumzaan until I actually get to try holding it first!

I have a ‘Zaan and just got the 21. The Z does have a couple hot spots in my hand but I still love it and like to carry it. The 21 is more comfortable and refined but the Z is classy too and that harpoon blade sure does look cool. People I’ve let use it love the looks of it. Get the Wilson Combat version with the starburst pattern on the handle.

Thanks so much for your input! I do like the Wilson Combat look a lot, however I’m still thinking I may be better of just sticking with the Sebenza and Inkosi as I like to use my knives fairly hard and good ergos are really important. I find the Sebenza to be about the best so far from Chris Reeve for my hand and I may just pass on ordering an Umnum until I can physically hold it. Would be a shame to order it and have it be uncomfortable to use.

Like others have mentioned, I have also found the Umnumzaan's clip placement can be very uncomfortable with how I usually grip it (pinch grip).

However I carry the Umnumzaan without the pocket clip and find the ergonomics almost as good as a large inlaid Inkosi.

I find both are better for me ergonomically than a large Sebenza with inlays without pocket clips.

Ranking them with clips:
1) Large Inkosi
2) Large Sebenza 21
3) Umnumzaan

Without clips:
1) Large Inkosi
2) Umnumzaan
3) Large Sebenza 21

Good luck!

I have all three and honestly I find no hotspots on any of them ... they are all very different knives ... but allgreat knives ...

the one thing I will say which has nothing to do with the ergos on the Zaan ... but most people have a learning curve to open it easily ... it is a slightly dufferent motion to open and many people say it tears their thumbs up ... and the Zaans I have took a bit of a break in period to get as smooth and lock up solid ... it's just from the o'rings.

But in my hand all three feel great.

Thanks! This is really helpful as I am okay with no pocket clip. Strangely enough I prefer the straight clip on the Sebenza as opposed to the angled clip on the Inkosi as for some reason it creates less hot spots for me. This seems to be contrary to what many people find.

Interesting to hear! Maybe I should grab one and try it out haha...I am easily persuaded it seems!

Have you tried one of the Millit clips on a 'Zaan? It seems like one of those would really help on that knife. I've seen one with the matching Wilson starburst pattern on it. I'd love to try one of those on mine.

Wouldn't squeezing the knife engage the lock vs unlock?

A LNIB CRK Zaan will lose virtually no value if you were to resell it. You could always order one and then if you don’t like it just resell it.
