I was lucky enough to find an Old Pivot Umnumzaan without the LBS (and Tanto) but i'm a little let down because the tab on the lock bar that makes the newer Umnums so easy to use isnt as pronounced on the older knife. I'm wondering if all "old pivot" Umnumzaans have this let down or if the lock bar tab was revised before the new pivot came into play.

Any help?

It was. CRK increased the access to the lock on the second/third runs of the old pivot, then they went to the new pivot/jimpimg etc

Is there a way/date to determine the runs? My thumb skating across the lock bar on my Umnum was the exact reason I sold it a few years ago.

I have 2 that were both born July 24, 2012, they have the more accessible lockbars. The new pivot Zaan that I just sold was only a couple months newer, so it may be that there's more out there from right near the end of the old pivot era.

There were old large pivot unmumzaans with the higher unlock bar. I believe I first encountered that with the original Wilson Combat Zaans. They made the regular ones like that for a bit also until people started bending lock bars thinking they knew more than Chris Reeve did about the locking mechanism. The umnumzaan is NOT a sebenza. Hence the LBS and then later smaller pivot to match that of the sebenza 25.

Isn't that the truth. I've been thinking really hard about getting an older UG Sebenza or another Umnum. Nyefmaker, could you tell a difference in ease of operation between the ones you had?

I have no complaints with my older Umnum in terms of deployment compared to my newer piece. Its just the darn lock bar tab that annoys when coming from the newer knife. I find that when I modify how my hand grips the lock bar, it makes a huge difference on how difficult/easy it is to use on the older model.
