Umnumzaan Handle Milling Question

I have seen several replica Umnumzaans on eBay and for sale on the internet where the handle pattern looks slightly different from the pattern posted on the CRK web site. Usually it looks like either the pocket clip is longer or that there is an extra gridline in the pattern. Here is an example of the alternate pattern that I have seen online:

There appears to be an extra gridline on this handle compared to the CRK pictures and majority of Umnumzaans that I have seen. The pocket clip extends to the cross of the second gridline. I have seen this pattern in posts such as the "Umnumzaan Picture Thread". I have seen this handle pattern on both the old pivot and on the newer 25 pivot.

This is a picture of the Umnum from CRK:

The pocket clip is long enough that it extends to the cross in the first gridline. This pattern is on the majority of Umnumzaans that I have seen; featured on both the old pivot and on the newer 25 style pivot.

Are both of these patterns on legitimate Umnumzaans? That I have seen them on supposedly real Umnums of all generations makes it more confusing. I was unable to locate any information with a search.

Hmmm...I see your point. Awaiting thoughtful replies...;-)

I only have one for comparison, but it has the pattern of your top pic. A quick look at the Umnumzaan picture thread shows plenty of both. I'm guessing a legit pattern change at some point?

I will have to look at mine at home tonight..The presentation side has 8 one direction and 4 crossing

Mine seems to be as your top pictured one.
Purchased from an authorized CRK dealer beginning of this year with a birthdate of 07/24/2014

So I guess that settles it. There are two different patterns! I wonder how that works on CRK's end. I've seen older pivot style handles with this pattern so it wasn't just cut in. Mixed stock?

CRK are always making little changes here and there, they don't announce every thing they do....in fact they don't announce anything they do. Even new knives can come as surprise. :p

All my Umnumzaans are an 09 vintage and they all have the 4/5 pattern on the lock side. :)

Oh man, you gotta be kidding me! Now I need both patterns in new and old pivot!

Just checked mine, birthdate January 31, 2014, on lockside its git 4/5 grid (OP's 4/6) and 4/8 grid on the other side. As mine has less 1 grid may look as if the clip is shorter. Bought mine from a local vendor in Malaysia.

Glad I found this thread. I almost called a guy out for scamming me. All of these good clones have me nervous and I read that clip length/ mill pattern could be an indicator. Looking further into it I see that there do seem to be only those two patterns that I can find.

This is from the CRK website: umnumcrksite.jpg

and this is from knifecenter:Umnum knifecenter.jpg

Nice catch OP! My Zaan is the Wilson version, so I obviously never counted the cuts. I just looked through the pictures thread and can see the difference!
