Umnumzaan lanyard pin question.

I've spent a while searching the forum and google and didn't really find what I was looking for. If i missed a thread please link me to it. So my question:

I like to keep the lanyard pin in but don't really care to keep the lanyard on the knife. Is there a mod or aftermarket pin that, like the one on my small reg, fills the hole without the lanyard attached?

I'm asking because my new, to me, Zaan came in the mail today. I'm excited to put this thing to work!

Thanks in advance.

You can either put a small piece of paracord in the hole and burn the ends into the hole of the pin too keep it in the handle or you can put a few O-rings around the center to also keep it from falling through the handles.

Two great ideas thanks. Ace actually has open bin o-rings so I won't have to guess at its size. Thank you.

Not quite. I had to order the pivot tool. But yes, this knife is going to get used.

If anyone ever has a question about how to package a knife for shipping ask Rycen. Take notes and you will never run into an issue, bomb proof. Thanks Rycen, it's a great knife.

A small pair of needle nose pliers will work to loosen the pivot. Also might want to run it underneath some hot water for a few minutes as there might be some Loctite since it just came back from the factory.

Idea #3 which I just thought up and probably would be the cleanest look would be get a piece of heat shrink tubing (Im sure they come in different colors) and cut a little piece out and slide it in the center of the pin and shrink it on.

Like Nismo above I placed a small piece of paracord in the hole and melted either end so that it would stay in place. I carry it all the time and the pin is still there. You cant even see the paracord unless you look at just the right angle and even then its hardly noticeable.

CRK makes a lanyard pin that stays in the knife. On the original lanyard pins, if you removed the pin, the lanyard came out. Now CRK has the ends of the lanyard pin machined to stay in the knife and fill the hole. That way the lanyard pin is always in the knife. It can be removed of course if you so desire.

Thanks for the input and ideas. I was actually going to call CRK today to see if they had a different pin.

The heat shrink is a more elegant idea. I was thinking I could split a small section of electrical tape and use that as a clean "work around". It's black and if I do it well you shouldn't be able to see the end.

Update: CRK does not sell a pin that says in place without a lanyard in place. I called and asked.

#61 O-ring 9/32 X 5/32 X 1/16 is the perfect size for the lanyard pin. 3 of them fill the space between to scales perfectly. Hope that helps someone.

i can't remember if my umnumzaan is an 09 or 10, but the lanyard pin has stayed in with nothing in it for quite some time
