I have had a few Sebenza's over the years, 4, to be exact. All were large models with one a Regular and the other 3 were Classics. I always liked for the lockbar to come over on the bladetang and give about 30% coverage. I know that CRK says 50% to 75% is about right for a new out of the box Sebenza. On my production Umnumzaan, I find that the lockup is around 50%. From what I can tell, don't have the takedown tool yet to know for sure, the middle part of the lock bar is comprised of the inlaid ceramic ballbearing that locks against the blade tang. I read somewhere that this was a diamond ceramic ball? Would that mean that diamond dust is part of the ceramic mixture?

Having had both, Sebenza and Umnumzaan, I can say that the Umnumzaan appeals to me a little more, not that I would turn a Sebenza down if the funds were there, as I want to get another large Classic with wood inlays. I just like the handle shape a little better on the Umnum as it seems to fit my hand better. I can see how the dip in the back of the blade could be useful as my thumb just naturally rests there if I choke up on the knife. I like the swedge idea but it does give the point a fantasy look in my eyes. The grinds on this knife are wider from top to bottom than any Sebenza I've had, and it came hair popping sharp. Back to the swedge, it does give the point reinforcement as the Umnum has a very sharp point that is not fragile.

The action is VERY smooth. When I got it last Saturday, the first few openings were sorta stiff, but it quickly smoothed out. The lockbar puts plenty of pressure on the blade to keep it in place, but once overcome the blade just glides out into lockup with barely a "snick" to be heard due to the polyurethane O-rings. The blade has absolutely no play that I can feel and the lockbar is plenty stiff so that it is not going to come over and unlock on its own, it will take a deliberate push from me to unlock it, and that is something I have always found CRK to be the best at!

Guess my questions turned into a mini review of sorts! But I can tell you that the Umnumzaan has already found a ready spot in my edc rotation and I get a great thrill in using this knife for the chores I need a knife to do!:D:thumbup:

Not having handled one yet, I'd like to see a close-up of the ceramic ball in the lock bar. I am having a seriously difficult time understanding that detail.
