That's my current utility folder for all heavy-duty tasks. Sometimes I just don't want big fixdblade. Well, 5" Harsey would look a bit out of place on the beach, where you meet families, children etc. so a HD folder is best option. And Umnumzaan, thanks to the special pivot / washers and locking "ball" construction is PERFECT for sand environment (Iraq? Afghanistan?)! It is as smooth as in the first day and thanks to the locking ball no sand can compromise blade-lock area (it **could be** a problem when two flat surfaces meet at the locking point... like in Sebenza). I like the Umnumzaan concept more and more every day!

The third picture looks like the umnum has a black blade!!! I had to look twice! Nice knife! Ps. Your girl is getting bigger with every new photos you post one day she is going to start posting on your behalf!

I was asked to perform a small sand test with my Umnumzaan. I said OK! So... I burried it fully in damp sand today. Than I grabbed it and opened with one smooth push of my thumb! And I mean SMOOTH! Than I opened / closed it couple of times BURRIED in the sand. Still nothing but smooth action. That design (lock, pivot and perforated washers) is brilliant. Perfect serious folder for serious use under ANY conditions. Just check these pics out!

Thanks Chris for freatig this fine tool

So let me get this straight, theres no reason to take this knife apart?

@ PiterM... Is it the light? The scales on your Umnumzaan look brown. It looks really nice! I've never seen one in real life, but in typical photos the scales appear a green/grey color. What's the reality? Thanks.

Rob

Oh! The irony! Back in 1996, I was calling dealers looking for the new (at the time) version of the Sebenza. One of the dealers I spoke to (who didn't even have a Sebenza available) asked why I wanted a Sebenza when the design was inherently flawed because it let dirt in and that a folder with the back side closed wouldn't. Time and time again that statement has been proven false. It's refreshing to see it debunked even with the Umnumzaan. Dziękuję, Piotr.

ABSOLUTELY no reason! It's smooth as silk :) I'm back home today and I'm not going to take it apart. No reason to do that.

And yes, it's light only - the scales are gray, not brownish.

Hey Piter,

I have another question, what about when the knife needs lubing, how would you proceed to do so? or when it gets dirty from muddy water for example.

When it's dirty -> tap water + bit of soap will do the job

When it needs lubing -> I'll take it apart, clean every part, relube & assembly back together. As I do with Sebenza, the same drill. Just not needed so often :D
