Well Guys, I am finally going to get a Umnumzaan via trade. I am excited. I have been wanting one for awhile, but put it off while buying more CRK and others. It will be here early next week as we are mailing our knives tomorrow morning. I will post pics and share my thoughts on it when it arrives !! Now there will be an EDC battle.....Large Regular Sebenza vs. Umnumzaan !!!

Great choice knifemaker! I bet it won't be much of a battle. Once you get used to the Umnum, you won't carry anything else!

Good deal Tom, Your going to love it................. Rick :thumbup:

I've got a threesome. A Large Regular, Small Regular, and my Umnum (came today) to choose from that is. In the morning, I have to choose which of the three to carry. Sometimes one, most times two, now three??? So, basically, I'm in the same situation as you. What a dilemma it is...congrats on the UMNUM!

so what's your preferred one?

I EDC my large regular NCIS sebenza almost all the time, I carry my small vines sebenza off and on, as well as one of my mnandi's. So the Umnumzaan will be competeing with family ! But so far, it has been my large regular NCIS sebbie all the way.

Congrats budddy. Finally got what you wanted. There is no better feeling.... until there is something else you want.

For EDC, the Small Seb is my favorite so far. It practically disappears in my pocket yet is big enough for any task I might need it for. The Large is a close second and we'll see where the Umnum falls into line.

WHY did all you guys not tell me to get a Umnumzaan Sooner ??? :D Just kidding. My Umnumzaan arrived Monday. All I can say is WOW ! A truely awsome design. I have barely put it down. I keep comparing it to my large regular sebbie. The umnumzaan is so much smoother, Zero sound on blade lockup. Truely awsome. It was slightly used and in pretty good shape, but was definately carried. When I first got it, there was some crud inside. So I used 2 toothpicks to take it apart. Thoroughly cleaned it throughout. I went over the outside with 0000 steel wool and it took out all the scratches. Lubed it up and put it back together. About 10 swipes each side on my "fine" sharpmaker sticks at 40 degrees and it was scary sharp. Someone used a torx head screw for the pocket clip, I replaced that with a regular CRK clip screw, which pulled the clip into the proper position. Now the clip is nice and tight. It took a little work, but now the umnumzaan is in like new condition. By doing all that, I just made it even more mine. I ordered a take down kit today from CRK, it will make it easier to take down in the future. The swedge on mine is very sharp. It will shave my fingernail and it easily cut the cuticle off of my fingernail, so the swedge is sharp. I am going to leave it like that, unless I start getting cut on it, but I dont see that happening. I Love the grooves cut into each side. I have heard of people not liking them, but I find them to be awsome. I wish I could get them on a sebbie....lol. I tied the lanyard on, now the knife is complete. This is definately a keeper. I like it much better than the strider I traded for it. I did not like the idea of the ball detent when reading about it, after seeing it first hand and how it works, I like it much better. I dont the lockup is as solid with the detent as it is with a full lockbar on the sebenza, but only time will tell. All I can say is, Yet Another Great Chris Reeve Design !

Umnums are awesome...I took a stone to the swedge on mine to dull it down a little. I didn't like the swedge at first but I'm warming up to it. As long as it's not sharp I can live with it.

Is the tip as thick as the regular?

That was one of the reasons I never cared for the Classic.

The blade on the Umnumzaan is thicker overall than the blade on a sebenza. I dont have the specs, but comparing the two, you can see its thicker. I am extremely impressed with he umnumzaan. I gave my sebenza a rest and have been carrying this since I got it on monday. I have to say, so far I love it. Its alot smoother than the sebbie, but its a different design and the rubber o-rings soften the "click". I kinda like the ''click'' because then I know the knife is locked without looking at it. Its going to take awhile with the umnumzaan as I am having to look to make sure its locked because there is no sound. It clips and carries the same as my large sebbie. I really like the grooves cut into it. Makes the knife nice and grippy. Plus it looks cool I think. I like that the blade has some ''belly'' to it. Its similar to the regular sebbie blade where it has more ''belly''. The reason I am not a huge fan of the 21 is that for me the blade is too pointy. I havent had a large 21 yet, but for me, on the small its too pointy.

Congrats on your new 'Zaan. I am not a huge fan of framelocks but the Umnumzaan is in a class of its own, that ceramic ball makes all the difference, virtually eliminating friction and therefore wear.
I bought one as soon as it came out then foolishly started to buy overpriced Striders and I kind of forgot about the 'Zaan. Then, tired of bad locks and QC issues, I looked at it with new eyes and finally understood that it is probably the best-built folder on the market today. And CRK's customer service is just great.

Lorenzol, what do you mean by bad locks ? Although Strider is not my favorite brand, I gotta admit they do have strong locks (very sticky at first though). Can you please explain ?

Besides the stickiness (I mean, they sell you a 1000$+ custom that comes with graphite from a pencil on the lock to make it less sticky!), they have a lot of friction and therefore wear down quite fast. And I had a couple of customs that came with a "weak" lock, I had to disassemble the liner and bend the lock to make it more secure.
The problem with framelocks is that people confuse strength and hardness. A lock can be hard because of friction or because it is simply badly designed.
But hey, that is just my personal experience, I am sure many people are perfectly happy with their Striders.;)
