Like the title says, I want both the Umnumzaan and the Spyderco Lionspy, but I can only afford one at this time.

Please help me with my first world problem, and help me pick a folder for hard use EDC'ing.

I'm no stranger to big folders having an extensive ZT collection (303, 350, 200, 121, 561, 551, 500, soon a 780) and I also regularly EDC a Manix XL and Military in my rotation so weight and size aren't an issue.

I just need to justify one over the other... Both are very beautiful folders each with different appeal, so make you case for which one.

Thank you.

the umnumzaan all day. That is one of the few spydercos I don't like and the price has everything to do with it.

I've had two Zaans and I have a Lionspy. I'm pretty fond of the LS . . . The Zaan is a really nice knife but I sold or traded both over time anyway. You always know what you are getting with a CR but I have to say, my LS is 100% perfect in every way - I like it a lot.

A big, thick hunk of Elmax, a nicely finished Ti slab with textured G10 on the non-locking side, a razor sharp convex edge from the factory, a subtle glass breaker that doesn't really look like one, a replaceable steel lock bar insert, a heat treat that isn't done too soft, not too big or heavy, no sand or bead blast finish to scuff the first day you carry it and in my Lionspy's case, world class F&F reminiscent of a high end custom. Oh, and a Spyder Hole to boot all for $280.

That's a good deal as far as I'm concerned

Umnumzaan, sitting here fondling mine. Second to nothing from spyderco. And I have owned a few. If you want a real Lionsteel get a SR-1, they are sexy.

'Zaan. I have one and would make the same choice again.

The 'Zaan seems a bit more of an all-rounder. You didn't say what you want to use the knife for, so I'm guessing it's going to be a general purpose knife. I'm not a big fan of two different handle materials, not sure why, maybe just aesthetics, but I can't help wondering why the G-10?

The Umnumzaan is a phenomenal knife. The Lionspy sounds cool, but has had some mixed reviews. If I were using a knife to cut up meat or process game, I might go for the Lionspy, otherwise the 'Zaan would be my clear choice.

I would go with the zaan. At that price point though, you might as well be looking at the real lionsteel sr-1 with the titanium handle rather than the Spyderco version....

I've had both and loved both. The lionspy is such a solid knife and found it to be worth the cash. The Zaan is also a killer blade as well. Both are so different from each other so whatever you choose will make a difference.

I'd say the Zaan is more EDC friendly.

Is the Nummynummyzumzum worth $125 more than the Lionpsy or for that matter, $25 more than the full titatnium Lion Steel SR-1?;)

A better match would be the Lionsteel Sr-1 in Ti, which is a stunning knife. I prefer the Umnum a bit more , though. Never really liked the LionSpy, not that it can't hang, but it plays ball in a very tough price category.

I think the Zaan is a better EDC. It's just easier to carry. I do really like the Lionspy and the rotolock works really well. I'm not sure which is more heavy duty but I might give a slight edge to the Lionspy.

^ *Facepalm* Lionsteel is an Italian company that Spyderco did a collaboration with, hence, Lionspy. A Lionspy is a cheaper version of the SR-1.

Umnum all day, got mine a couple weeks ago and love it:thumbup: Lionspy looks like a great knife as well but the Umnum is better imo
