I'm looking at getting a nicer titanium frame lock in a couple months after some saving. I've got it narrowed down to 2 in no particular order the Umnumzaan and the Hinderer XM-18. I like both knives a lot and will possibly end up getting both eventually if I'm being completely honest, but I'm not for sure which one I want to get first. For people who own both or only one of these knives how do you feel about them? I wanna hear the positives and the negatives if you have any; this will be my first knife over $300 and I just want to get an idea from people who use them on a day to day basis.

I have both and use both. Both are great knives, have great customer service and will be dependable. The hinderer has plenty of accessories to make it different than standard models. IMO, the Umnumzaan is a better slicer. No negative thoughts on either brand.
Don't have a pic with both, but this one will have to do, ;)

I have both and love them, but I use the Umnumzaan more. Tanto blade for me.

I vote XM on the sole reason I HATE the lockbar on the Umnumzaan. I really wish they had done a relief cutout in the presentation slab to access the lock bar instead of the extension that comes out past the handle. Otherwise I believe it is the better of the 2. I've had several of both and the only one I still have is an XM non flipper.

I have and really like both. If you think you'll be getting the other sometime down the road, I'd just do a coin toss, too. Both are excellent knives and I enjoy using them. I use my Hinderer knives more, though. Like was mentioned, you can customize the Hinderer to your liking with different colored hardware.

Both are excellent. Coin toss.

Zaan prob takes up a little less pocket space, Hinderers open faster.

It's a toss up. I prefer the XM or Id carry the Umnum.

The biggest reason I prefer the XM is thicker tip and better ergos.

You really need to try both to find out.

XM 3.5
-thicker tip
-easier to open with either hand
-better ergos and choil to choke up on blade.
-3.13 cutting edge

Umnum
-slices better and gorgeous blade
-carries slimmer
-its CRK quality
-3.54 cutting edge

Now the Inkosi. That ties the XM for me.

Thanks for all the feedback so far iv held a couple Hinderers but never a Chris Reeve ill see if I can possibly hunt one down in my local area.

They are both great knives, love mine. Should you choose a Zaan, check out the Wilson Combat Star Tac. It is an awesome looking blade.

If you're looking for something flippy to open and close get the XM. The Zaan is a more deliberate opener. Your thumbs will need to get used to it's slghtly different opening angle.

That being addressed... coin toss.

Depends.
If you ever have to open your knife with gloves on, XM-18 with flipper for sure.

"Zaan. I just can't get past the overly-large choil on the XM. I have the Hinderer MP-1 and love the knife, and would go for it over the XM. Just to my eye that choil is freakishly large for what purpose. If there is an explanation for it, I'm happy to learn what it is. The 'zaan is just an extraordinary knife, with everything you need an nothing you don't.
