Umnumzaan - partial engagement just before it locks...

Hi Blade Forum,

I recently purchased the small sebenza micarta inlay and the Umnumzaan a week later. Both knives are terrific and well made.

Quick question...about 90% of the way open, just before the lock engages, it feels like there is a partial engagement/ pre-catch on the sebenza. I really like this feather since when closing the knife one handed, the pre-catch seems like a safety feather. Does the Umnumzaan not have this?

If I understand correctly, your talking about that little click you hear when the blade clears the ball detent on the sebenza. This doesn't happen on the zaan, as it locks up right after clearing the ball.

Yeah you won't get that click because the ceramic ball on the Umnumzaan is on the front of the lock bar, and it always has contact with the blade in one way or another, and with the sebenza the ceramic detent is on the side so when the blade clears it and the Ti touches the blade then you get that little click.
