I have really been enjoying my Umnumzaan which I recently acquired from a friend here on the forum.
The other day I decided to sand it with 600 grit wet/dry paper to give it a different look. I really like how titanium looks when it is somewhat smoothed down from the media blast CRK uses. I sanded a Large Regular before but wanted to do a little less on this one to help minimize the appearance of finger and hand prints.
The other thing I did was sharpened and polished the previously unsharpened edge
What do you guys think?

Awesome! Really like the look of that. I may need to get some tips from you for doing something similar with my Insingo.

Looks just like the holster wear on some of my guns...in other words, it looks great!

Nice work, that's very cool. :)

I did pretty much the same thing to my Zaan about 5-6 months ago...

I think it looks Much Better.

I think yours Look Great Too.

Very nice, I might have kept my umnum proto if i would have known that could be done. Again nice patina.

looks cool peppercorn  I guess you got inspired by my swedge adventure the other day ;)

Wow, thanks for the great response everyone, it's really cool how you guys jump in with your thoghts and observations.
One of the benefits of this finish is that it is more resistant to minor scratches, like you might get when the knife rubs against keys, or whatever else it may come into contact with.

Just wondering if you have ever had a problem cutting your hand or pants pocket with the sharpened edge?

I'm not sure where you mean. I didn't sharpen anything but the blade itself.

That looks pretty slick.
Looks like I'm bringing home some 600 grit wet/dry paper tomorrow.

Thanks slayer!

It works best when you either sand it under a trickle of water or rinse frequently. It keeps the grit consistent.
I also recommend a medium density rubber sanding block.

Good luck.

Need a write up! I'll have my Umnum on wed and I really like the look of that.

So you just took the 600grit and wet it down and hit the edges, but what about the cross pattern on the scales? Did you go around each one separately or just rub the thing top to bottom and it hit the edges?

Did you disassemble it?

Yes, disassemble the knife.

Once it is disassembled wet the slab you are working on and, with the sandpaper wrapped around your sanding block, sand the whole side of the slab in one back and forth motion until you get it to where you like the look of it. Sand the next slab as close to the same amount as the first one to make sure you have a similar finish. Just do it lightly, don't press too hard on it, and check your progress frequently. It probably only took about 15 minutes to sand my knife, not including disassembly and reassembly.. I used a small piece of sand paper and my index finger to go around all the edges of each slab.

Ask more questions if it doesn't make sense.

Good luck.

BTW, congrats on the Umnumzaan, it is a great knife.

I have posted more photos below that were taken in sunlight to hopefully give a different perspective on the detail.

I wonder if that treatment on the screw heads would look good.
It almost looks out of place to have shiny stuff on that knife.
Just thinking out loud...

I tend to agree with you, especially in these last photos.
Since it was a bit scuffed up I actually polished the hardeware and blade with flitz. I think the 600 on at least the hardware would look good too.
