Umnumzaan, Polished scales...

Just wondering what needs to be done to polish the scales on the umnumzaan... is it just simple sand paper up to a finer grit?

Im thinking about doing it to mine, but am a bit worried I may screw it up beyond repair...

Also, ive seen others sanded down umnumzaan's (in this one case, just to remove the grip pattern) and it still looked grey like stock, just without the grooves...

So, those that polished theirs... did you do it on the stock titanium scales?

Thanks a bunch!

I have never polished my knives soI don't know the best way to do it, but that knife looks cool.

This looks like a Scotch Brite treatment to me. I'm not positive thought.

That would be correct. Sandpaper would look polished. That looks great compared to mine..At least I don't have to worry about mine getting scratches anymore :D

I always just reblast mine with glass beads, It is a alot smoother than the original finish.

I have been using super fine steel wool (#0000) on my Sebenzas.

It gives them that nice worn look.

You can also use an industural eraser (like the ones they sell to clean crock-sticks) Gives it a nice look too. Sorry I don't have a better picture at the moment. Hope this helps.

I just used some Scotch bright on my zaan tAke off a ton if scratches. Looks just Like that one in the pic

I have been thinking of taking it right to a full mirror polish... not sure why, but I think it would look amazing... would mirror polish the blade as well..

What do you think?

Should I do it? I think a full mirrored umnumzaan would look amazing...

also thinking about practicing some anodizing... seeing if I can make some cool unique graphics on my own... probably just pick up a sheet of titanium and cut out a few dummy scales...

Could be fun

I used 320 wet/dry paper and finished with '0000' steel wool.
Ive used scotchbright on others and it works well also. The steel wool really smooths it out as a last step. The key is to not be too aggressive and take your time, Ti is fairly soft.
