Recently got this new wilson startac umnumzaan. At first i wasn't that crazy about it was hard to open, opening the blade it was a little gritty and the orings were very loose (for a brand new knife).

Took it apart, relubed, adjusted tension, scotch brite treatment and new clear orings. This knife is like a fine wine it only gets better with age!

I LOVE THIS KNIFE! I've had a sebenza small and large, mnandi, hinderer, a rj overkill, emerson, and strider.

This umnumzaan is my current favorite!


Anyways just my thoughts.

Anyone else feel the umnumzaan grow on them after time?

I don't have a pic to post but I have plenty of YouTube vid of my Tanto Umnumzaan and two Star Tacs up on YouTube under the same user name.

My good friend Blackend had one of the 20 prototypes, brought it over to my house for me to see, and as much as I liked the handle there were things about the knife that I just didn't like. I kept thinking about it and wished that they'd remove the harpoon style swedge from the blade, then, TNK released the Tanto and I was hooked. I bought one immediately and still took some time to warm up to it, but, once I did it turned out to be my main edc blade for around 2 years now. I've since bought two Star Tacs and found that I've also warmed up to the harpoon style swedge, I jut can't say enough good things about the Umnum, I love it.
You may wonder why I need three of them, sometimes I do too, but, they're all slightly different so I look at it as having one of each ;D just a few more and I'll have a complete set of the timeline of the umnumzaan.

I'm always happy to hear about another knife nut who enjoys the umnum as much as I do, enjoy it in great health.

In this last pic, you can see the differences between an S35VN(top) model as opposed to the "first edition" (bottom)original Umnumzaan. Notice the relief cut out on the lock bar of the S35VN for easier thumbstud access. Also notice the female head screw at the rear on the original, the same as the old regular Sebbies. And of course, no, "Idaho Made" along the pivot.
