Hello,

Im going to be buying a new framelock in a few days and the Umnumzaan startac is at the top of my list. I have one concern about deploying the blade. I had a BM 710 and when wearing gloves at work I had problems deploying the blade because of how close the thumb stud is to the scales. Even without gloves it was problematic. Most of my knives have a spyder hole or flippers because of how easy they are to open regardless of the situation. Any help would be great!

Thanks,

Chris

I use my Um at work all the time and we are REQUIRED to wear gloves at all times. I have never had a problem opening it with reasonably thin gloves (thick winter gloves are their own problem)

You don't push OUT on the stud, you push UP, so theres actually quite a bit of room for your thumb to get purchase on the stud even if you do have on big gloves :)

I have been EDCing my Um' for the last 6 weeks, since I bought it, and there are no issues deploying the knife with thin gloves on. As jbob said, the manner that you need to use to open the Umnumzaan is not like other knives and there is actually more than enough room to access the stud.
On a side note, give the Um' a bit of time; I was really disappointed with mine when I first got it because of how hard it is to open and close. After a night of playing with it in front of the TV I was really happy with it, you just need to learn the knife.

I'll say this about my Umnum: While wearing some Camelbak Magnum gloves I have no problem opening the knife one-handed. However, closing is a serious[ issue. It requires 2 hands for me to close my knife. But with other gloves, like some Damascus drivers gloves, which are thin-leather (no kevlar reinforcement), I have no problems whatsoever.
