A friend offered to sell me his early Umnumzann, it has the original style lock and the old pivot, of course, and I guess S30V steel. Was wondering if these early models are as as good as the new ones... Or is it preferable to have the stabilizer (or whatever that disk with the CR logo is) on the lock bar and the newer pivot? It's not that inexpensive--I cold hold out for a newer one--what do you all think? Or--are the original ones better in some way? I do prefer the cleaner look of the plain lock bar and less (I think) writing on the scales.

I think it's just a matter of preference. They both function the same. Either way your getting a great knife:thumbup:

The original ones are smoother(dont know why) and are harder to thumb flick open. Theyre basically the same no matter which one you get. Im somewhat of a collector, so I did grab an original "just because". The actions on the originals vs the ones now are a little different..ie, detent, access to thumbstud etc

I prefer the older knives, I'm not a big fan of the changes made although the new pivot is one change I don't mind.

I recently picked up an original myself and it is way smoother and silent compared to my late 2011 Umnumzaan. I wonder what happened with that?

I like my older one a lot. I'm not a big fan of the "idaho made" or the lockstop on the new one. great knife either way though.
