Oi, maybe you can answer my question.
Since there's a difference in size for the detent ball, I'm wondering if that has an effect on the ease of opening? Is one easier to open than the other?
I'm trying to figure out why they used a different size.
Ill do my best.
I have 2 25's, one of the first 30 production knives released from last Nov. and one from June 6th of this year. I also have 3 Umnumzaan/StarTac's which are all different generations.
I've taken apart the two different models and on all of mine the detent ball is clearly larger on the 25.
Both of my 25's have a SIGNIFICANTLY tighter detent and hold closed better than the Umnum's which in turn open easier for me. I don't know if the 25's hold tighter due to their design, more tension on the lock bars, or the detent ball but I ASSUME that it's a combination of all of the above.
After being broken in my 25's are smooth as silk and open easily while being held closed tightly, I like them a lot, but, they'll never be as easy to open as the umnum's are due to the way that you push forward on an Umnum and out on a Seb.
I can't answer why they used a larger ball, could be that he wanted the better detent or maybe more surface engaging the lock bar- maybe just easier to work with, who knows. Only thing that I can say for sure from my own personnel experience is that the Umnum is a lot easier to open.
I hope that my long winded ramble answered your question.
