There are a lot of WOW features on the new Umnumzaan, that makes it a very desirable knife for me. I am a bit taken aback at the "fin" at the tip area of the blade spine. Has the creator given any purpose for it?
Now the dip in the middle of the spine looks quite useful.
Looks like a G&G Hawk??

Hi Lycosa, thanks for responding, I can always depend on you.:)
Doing well, thanks! but this is the third time we have flinched this summer (hurricanes):thumbdn:

Note the lack of responses to my thread......petite tete!:D

Hi GW. Are you talking about the swedge at the tip of the blade? If so then it is semi sharp, and could be completely sharp with a little work. I do not know why it was done that way, though I have heard people say that with other blade swedges, they have used them to scrape with, thus saving the blade edge. The glassbreaker is the little pointy shaped protusion that you see when the knife is closed. It is located at the front of the knife, pivot area, and is used to, well, break glass! LOL I will admit that the "fin" also made me look twice, but now that I have the knife, I don't really pay any attention to it, and I guess it would make a good scrapper. I'm sure there must be a better answer and a better reason..........I just don't know them.:)

cutter 17,
Now the glass breaker location is clear. That makes sense, I like it. Thanks for clearing that up!

Now the fin - Such a puzzlement. Why?? No one knows.
Well, since you have one and looking at it (the fin)doesn't make you sick, they may not be as bad as I expected.:)

Once you have one in hand GW, you will lose all intrest in the swedge fin as the other qualities will take over. This has to be one of the smoothest opening knives I've ever held! The in hand feel is right on the money for me, and it has a more visible grind line, also higher, than on the Sebenza, and I like that. I also guess that the fin will help reinforce the tip a bit, but again, I don't really know, just guessing.

The Umnumzann---The New Sebenza!! :)
gull wing---Cut-to-the-chase; are you getting an Unumzaan??

buy it, Ive has alot of sebenzas but i think this knife takes it to the next level. Kinda like an up graded sebenza, for 2008.

Hello TKC, how is your day?:)

Lycosa, still on the fence, the fin thing. Seeing the side by side in another thread with the REGULAR = If they would have just left some more steel on the spine..........well, CRK's decision not mine. But I have the decision to buy or not to buy.:D

I really think if you get it in hand, all the positives will outweigh the fin. I can certaintly sympathize though, as I been there and one thing about a knife was all it took to turn me away. But, then again, I'm about as anal as they come when it is about knives!!:D:D

I can say that the Umnumzaan is currently riding in my right front pocket and has been since Wednesday. It rides great and that action is soooooo smooth!:thumbup::thumbup:

is the fin side sharp enough to open boxes? that would be cool because then you could save your blade edge for other tasks that actually NEED a sharp blade edge. Also I'll bet the fin is great for scraping, and Im sure that its easier to stab/pierce through objects with that double edge.

L4S, the fin is not sharpened. But, it would not take much to make it so. I think that a set of diamond rods in my Sharpmaker would allow me to put a razor edge on it. I would be hesitant though, due to the fact that part of that fin is out of the handle and exposed. Could be an accident just looking for a place to happen.:)
