Hello, it's been a while since I've been on the board and had a question for you CRK experts.

I took my Umnumzaan out of the safe today for the first time in forever. Man, I forgot how sharp the top swedge on my knife is. Mine is a January '09 model. I can run a finger over it without being cut but I swear it wouldn't take much time to have it shaving sharp.

For those who've purchased an Umnumzaan recently, are they still building with the sharpened swedge? It's hard to tell in the pictures.

Thanks for your help!

Eric

They are not suppose to be "sharp." I find that this edge is very useful for scraping things.

I have a small insingo with a "sharpened" top like the zann.

Yes its for scraping and for use as a fire starter against a fire stick so you don't have to use the edge. The prototypes were sharp IIRC.

I remember talking to CRK at the blade show west in 09. They mentioned that the first run was a bit too sharp for peoples liking and that they fixed dulled it down ever since.

I can second that. The swedge makes for a great fire starter against a fire stick. I have been doing that since I received my Large Insingo.

The swedge on my July 09 Umnumzaan wasn't sharp either. I actually gave it a bit of a touch up so that it would throw sparks from a fero rod a bit better and work more like a sacrificial edge, it's still not sharp enough to cut you though.
