Umnumzaan: Slight differences in newer(2010) vs older(2009)??

So I just got a used Umnumzaan in a trade today and it looked a bit different than the Umnumzaan I used to have a couple months ago. After looking more closely it seems the stonewash is darker and more pronounced and the tip is noticeably thicker. This one was made in April 2009. The Umnumzaan I USED to have was made sometime in 2010 I believe. Is this a well documented change that I missed or something that went unannounced. Here are some pictures of my new one (April 2009) for you guys to compare with. I might be able to find some pictures of my old one (2010 i think). I already compared this to a friend on the forums and we agree my Umnumzaan has a thicker tip than his more recently made one.

by no means am I complaining. This was all a pleasant surprise. I love the thicker tip and I think the darker stonewash is better looking.

All my Umnumzaans are from 09 so I can't make an actual physical comparison of knives from later years, but I have handled the newer knives. I can't say that anything was glaring as far as differences in finish like tumbling or blasting. Those sorts of finishes can have difference from batch to batch becaue of the medium used as well as the materials themselves. For example Titanium can take a different hue when blasted even when cut from the same sheet. Steel, especially the likes of CPM steels will be far more uniform but the tumbling medium could have been changed and that would give a slightly different looking finish. As for the thicker tip, that could just be down to the hand finishing or even machining differences. It doesn't mean it was an intentional change or that it will even be specific to a certain year. :)

Thats pretty cool. I am really happy about the thicker tip as its the only criticism of some people to this knife. I think they should all be made like this.

I think I am going to order a new clip tomorrow to see how the handle matches up with a newer clip.
