Hi All,

Just got my new Umnumzaan (waiting for the take down tool from bhyde to crack it open). Should it be out of the box as smooth as a large Sebenza? I can easily flick it open (YAY) but slowly opening it with my thumbs just doesn't feel as smooth as the Sebenza. Not sure if I need to lube it up or just give it time, or both.

It should be smooth, but I think it takes a little getting used to. It's got a different feel to it than a sebenza. Also, since the pivot sets the tightness, unlike a sebbie, that may be a factor.

Congrats on the new Umnum! I really like them.

Tool? Interesting- Must be one of my email contacts that went out recently- Hope it arrives soon! Shoot me an email so that I am sure that you are who I suspect!

Thanks!

Bill

Thanks for the replies all. Bill I sent you an email.

So far I really like the knive, I think loosening the pivot will do the trick, though the blade is already smoother from me opening/closing it a 100 times. :D

I really wish I had gotten the Um first, since so far I much prefer it to Sebenza (love to be able to flick open knives). Though that may just be because its my new toy.

Paul- Thanks for the confirmation- I can be a dimwit at times!

Paul, there may be a learning curve involved in your openning technique. If you are used to a sebbie, you know you have to push up to open smoothly. With the Umnum you push straight out away from the handle. It takes a little getting used to:thumbup:

Mine took some breaking in. A lot of opening and closing with dishwashing liquid detergent. It's a technique I learned from a article in Blade Magazine. Now it's the smoothest knife I own.

Yeah, like Dawn. Work it in by opening and closing the knife a few hundred times. Then clean the knife out and re lube. The knife parts should all be nicely broken in by then.

Interesting, so basically lube it like you would with CRK grease but use dawn instead?
