Maybe this has been brought up before but is something I noticed today.

The relief cut on the front slab of my Star-Tac is cut much deeper than the regular Umnumzaan. Makes opening and closing it much easier on the thumb.

Are the most current regular Umnumzaan's getting this also?

I think a minute with a Dremel would make it similar to the Star.

That is quite a difference, I don't believe the new production Umnumzaans have that but they do have an extra bevel on the out side of the lock bar now.

It really makes quite a bit of difference when unlocking the blade. Lets hope CR makes the future regulars similar.

It's still no problem the way the regular is but it can be hard on thumbs.

Bring on the Small/medium Umnumzaan!

I find I push down and out on the lock bar of so I don't have much trouble with it. I have been carrying it for a while now so I am quite used to it. I have noticed that some folks do have a bit of a fumble when trying to close the Umnumzaan though.

I was talking with a friend who is a some what elderly gentlman last week about the difference in the old and new production Umnumzaans and he had to use two hand to close my knife. He found the new thinned out lock bar even harder to unlock, I also found it harder to unlock for that matter. Any hoo, the lock on the Star-Tac looks like it would be much easier for everyone. :)

Definitely much easier to open as I just received my new Star and was amazed at how easy it was open. Ive done countless cycles on my reg Umnum so it was never a problem. BUT, I actually just put the Star in the mail for my $$$ back because I didn't like the look and the feel of it. It just didn't feel as good as my Umnum. Made me realize that the original was perfect...just gotta learn a new technique.

AND...a bit of news. I asked Tonya about the possibilities of a Large Starbenza. She didn't say yes but also didn't say no The tone in her voice made me think that ongoing talks are going on and that eventually it may be a reality:)

That's the biggest complaint I have about the Zaan. I am glad to see that the star version is improved.

I like the thin profile on the original (can we call it that?) Umnumzaan's lockbar. You get used to it and it made accidental unlocking impossible.
