Good lord, I love this knife but I hate, hate, hate this thumbstud! Seems like if I push from anything except the exact right angle, it’s a bear to open. If my hands are wet or even damp, it’s a no-go. Stop everything and completely dry my hands, not even enough purchase on the blade to open it two-handed. Is it just me? Anyone have a fix for it?

I struggled at mine for a tiny bit til I figured it out angles and finger pressure, etc.....and it broke in enough. I dont have a mechanical fix for it though.... .

I've never seen that graphic before, but that's exactly how I open mine and it's super easy to get open. It's definitely different from CRK's other knives, though; this one you don't put any pressure into the blade and it's supposed to flick open quickly.

Yes, this card (like the assembly diagram card) was in a 2017 or 2018 model in S35VN I had at one time.
It looks like it was a leftover card that used to be included with the the original pivot models per the graphic.
Too bad they stopped including it, but the information is widely available online now.
It probably saved me from abandoning the Zaan completely after also initialing struggling in figuring out how to properly open the blade.

I've never had a problem with the studs and I've owned new 5 Zaans never seen that card before.

I'd imagine if ya had the right grip and setup for it...it'd seem crazy someone would struggle with it.

I could always do it but struggled a bit in speed and comfort in the beginning. everyones natural grasp, size/length of fingers and angles they move naturally, are gonna be different.

even had a guy at work who could not open it no matter how he put his hand, fingers and tension. he finally gave up and thought it was a trick knife.

I have occasionally put too much pressure on the lock bar and caused myself more headache, but it may just be the size/shape of my thumb. If my hands are dry I can operate it 95% of the time, but if they’re wet at all I just can’t get my thumb to get any traction on the thumbstud. I’m considering getting some checkering files to rough up the domed ends on the thumbstud a bit

I tried to love mine but I also had the same issues among others things with this knife. I had to have one because all the love this knife has. But wow was I disappointed and couldn’t wait to move it down the road. I just don’t understand what all the hype is with this offering. “Horrible ergos” and the list goes on the only thing this knife has going for it is the looks and the love out there for it.

Also I just wanted to add I meant no disrespect to the owners of Umnumzaan’s and the thread starter so my apologies .It is a beautiful knife and I understand the heritage of this particular knife. I just wanted to share my personal experience with the thumb studs and all that I’ve mentioned .
For me my ownership was very disappointing from what I expected but there is a lot of folks out there that love them so there is strong following.
