Someone (or more than one) asked for some comparison pics. The large Sebbie is a Classic Inlay. . . . .

Set two. . . .

No frills photos and the Umnumzaan is two hours out of the box. No comments about dust or fingerprints, dammit. :p :D

Thanks for the pix.

Your a bolt flipper! I thought you would know better!

:p

Great photos!! right on the money for showing these two fantastic knives!!

Since I've only had the knife for several hours, I can only comment on my initial impression of the knife.

Let me start by saying. . . . .I'm just as impressed with the production model as I am the prototype I was able to fondle at Blade Show.

The smoothness of the action is phenomenal. Having owned quite a few Sebbies, it's kind of strange not to hear the blade lock in the open position. But it's a good thing. :D

Like the prototype and other Sebbies, the knife is rock solid. Lock up is smooth and tight. Blade is perfectly centered when closed. The edge is like a razor. DUH. . . .nothing new from CRK !

Fit and finish. . . . . .The Gigster is very happy ! :D

*off to see if it will withstand prying one side of the house from its foundation* :p

Congratulations! That's a nice looking knife. Thanks for the pics and comments. I may need to get one of those soon:D.

exactly how sharp is the swedge? is is something that might cause a problem with fabric abrasion when in pocket?

Thanks for the pix and review.
The more I look at the knife, the more I think that blade design sucks...wait and see for the next generation of CRK folders.

Not very sharp.

Excellent question.

The length of the swedge is 1 1/16". With the blade closed, there is approx. 5/16" exposed.

Since the it's set up for tip-up carry, how the swedge is nestled between the slabs, and the contour of the slabs at the butt end of the knife, I don't think it should be a problem.

Will carry it for a while and see how it works out. :D

Which would you say is "Better?"

I have a considerable amount of experience with Sebbies and pretty much none with the Umnumzaan. With that said, making a statement that one is "better" than the other would be asinine.

I feel the ergonomics of the Umnumzaan is an improvement over the Sebbie, as is the smooth action. In fact, the latter smokes the Sebbie !

That is why I put it in "quotes". I know it is asinine. :p

Hypothetically, if you were to handle both for the first time, which would be more impressive?

Since I live in B-F Egypt, I never get to handle before buying.

As big a fan of the large Seb I am... I can't believe I'm saying this...At this point after having used the Umnumzaan for a while, I can't ever see needing to purchase another large classic. I like the Numzan that much. A huge improvement over the Seb for heavy use!

The Sebenza is the Mercedes. It just out-classes the Um. Look at the side by side. But, beauty is in the eye... :)

Lycosa - I concur but then again it is called the Classic for a reason. Polished with wood inlay is a beautiful thing. The Um is much more on the modern side of the house.
