Hello all - I've been on the hunt for a new drop point umnumzaan, and I found the one below at Ye Ole Cutlery in MD. It says coming soon, but I called them Monday, and they said the link will be live to purchase this afternoon. I actually nabbed one from Knifeart last night in their drop (sold out in 10 minutes), so I'm not going to buy this one now. I'm just sharing the love for those of you that want to find a new umnumzaan. This AD doesn't offer alerts for new products - just have to neurotically check, which is how I saw it.

thanks for the heads up on this..I was able to grab one finally.
Great! I lucked out that I saw the knifeart one first - I live in MD so the tax on the unnumzaan would have been hefty. Enjoy breaking yours in. Mine will be here on Saturday as of now.

Mine actually came today. First time handling one so I was bit worried whether or not I'd be able to open it. Very easy to open for me. Closing was another question - couldn't close it one handed for the first minute or so. I have closing down now, but my wrist and hand are fatigued because I'm probably a wimp. I'm not a flicker, but tried because, well why not, and it's not happening for me out of the box. I can flick my small and large seb 21, and my small inkosi, but only with a fingernail flip, which is not going to happen for me on this zaan. The silent open is going to do wonders for my marriage.

Enjoy yours when it comes.

Awesome! I saw the email this morning too and it looks like they went fast. I'm still not certain if I'm going to keep mine, but I'm going to be patient for a bit. Opening is beautiful - it's the closing that is making me miserable.

I've never had a zaan but I saw a video once where the guy said you have to learn to close it in a very specific way.

Don't try to push that tab over with the point or end of your thumb or the side of your thumb even. Instead, you want to have the pad or meat of your thumb catch the tab to push it over. Does that make sense?

I found the video showing what I mean, watch it starting at the 18 minute mark

This is really helpful, thank you. I tried it again based off of what you said, and was able to get a few closes that were much better. Unfortunately though, it was bad enough that the tip of my thumb is growing a gnarly callus, now the flat of my thumb is gonna do the same while I try to find my sweet spot lol. The other contributing factor is that the knife is extremely stiff and the lockbar has a lot of tension, so it just makes closing even more difficult. Tonight was the first time I picked it up since yesterday, and I've actually been flicking it, so that milestone has motivated me to keep at it, and now that I can close it more easily, I'm heading in the right direction. I remember my first Sebenza and being MISERABLE for the first week or so - then it clicked - and now it's my favorite all time knife. That's why I've been willing to be patient with the zaan. I like how the youtuber you sent makes the analogy of CRK vs. a flippy knife on bearings to a manual vs automatic transmission. CRK's, like manual transmissions, are more rewarding and give you more control.

As a side note, investment wise, I was able to get the drop point, so if I ever need to sell, it will be extremely easy.

Just wanted to close the loop on my end that I love the zaan now. I have a gnarly callus on my thumb, so it doesn't matter how I try closing it - I can't even feel it. This is a far cry from the extreme pain I experienced in trying to close it. Awesome knife, and I'm glad I stuck it out.

Opening mine hasn’t been an issue - it’s already pretty smooth. It’s closing it that’s the problem! There’s some good tension on that lockbar!

I remember trying to close it and just failing completely and grimacing in pain. Fun times. Feels like years ago now lol

I think part of it is that I’m so used to the sebenzas lock bar having such a nice tactile movement when I push it over to close it, and the ‘zaan doesn’t do that. So I end up trying to push it way harder than necessary to get that same feeling that I feel from the sebenza, when I probably can push it even more lightly and still get it to close.

It sounds like you are where I was. I had to put thought into closing it. It was almost like a math problem to me - what angle my thumb was at, where to push, how much pressure. Now I don’t even think about it. I did a lot of opening and closing while reading books or watching videos to develop the motion.

Use the meat of your thumb on the lockbar.

I had the same problems and questions with my first Sebenza but gave it more time because nearly everyone has it as one of the best/high quality production folders in the world. It was only after about 6-12 months or so that it started breaking in and it became everything and more that I expected. It’s been my number 1 go to edc ever since. Hang in there, it’s worth it!!!!! Also, the last several years have sort of become a joke with companies putting out knives that are more like adult fidget spinners, how many ways can we open and close a pocket knife. This makes the CRKs feel even more difficult to operate when they are new and can turn off a lot of people that are used to easy flipper fidget friendly knives. I fell into this trap myself for a while and then just came crawling back to my Sebenza and asked for forgiveness. And then I added a Large Inkosi Tanto and LOVE IT!!!!!

100%. I've looked at each new CRK as starting a new relationship. When I added my small inkosi, I had a lot of issues getting the hang of it, but now it's my go to for small folder. Such a slick knife. I actually want a large inkosi tanto because I don't have any tantos.
