Maybe this is blasphemy and please forgive me if it is :p

I've always been interested in the Umnumzaan but the one thing that slows me down is the swedge.
Every time I look at it, it makes me think of a harpoon! :)

Has anyone every had one made special from CR that did not have a swedge?
I know the tanto version has none, but I don't want a tanto.

Thanks,
ThumperACC

EDITED TO ADD:

OK,

So I just sent an email to CRK inquiring about this. I'll let you all know how this turns out. (See post #11 below for CRK's response)
Just so you can appreciate what I am looking for, take a look at this picture. This is from the Wilson Combat site, this knife has a swedge but because of the lighting you cannot see it.

Harpoon! :D I don't think I'll ever look at the Umnu blade in quite the same way! :P

i love the swedge...just goes to show beauty is in the eye of the beholder. i was gonna ask if they could make a seb with an zaan blade.

I like the swedge for scoring cardboard and such. Its not sharp, but has come in handy many many times...........As far as having one made without, good luck. CRK does not deviate from their standard knives. Never hurts to ask though, but I already know the answer. I have emailed them Many times over the years asking for things like this, and was always shot down. Let us know what they say...?

See first post, I added a picture of what I am trying to get CRK to build. :)

I agree 100% and like the idea. Would make for a super strong blade point. I just know crk does not deviate from standard production. If perhaps they got enough people asking, they may be willing to do a special run of em without the swedge. The tanto zaan has a very slight swedge and is pretty much flat on top. Would be sweet. Let us know what they say.

Another option might be to buy a tanto and get it reground to your liking.

Well,

I got my answer. Here's the quote from the email "Sorry but we do not make alterations to our knives."

I guess that settles that. :(

Nyfemaker, you called it from the beginning.

I only know because I have asked them for other simple things like this and was always denied as well........ The only thing I could think of would be to ask for a special run and perhaps pre-order "X" amount and have buyers pre-pay for some so CRK KNOWS they will sell.

Chis has done special runs in the past, but its super rare.

The thing is, when you email them, you get the ladies on the phone or email responses and you never get to ask the man himself if you could pre-sell X amount, would you do some. The ladies are told basically I believe if someone asks for alterations, you get the generic "no" answer.

But again, CRK is not a custom shop. They are so back logged with their "normal" production, so they really don't have time to do special projects.....Its amazing that that will even do custom graphics for buyers and that itself is unique in the industry.

Even though I have been denied many times, I still and always will support CRK.

As for altering a tanto, any alternation would void the factory warranty. I have a well used tanto zaan and have ironically thought of doing so, but have never done so. I am convinced you could do it on the sharpmaker alone, but would take several hours. It would almost be like the hinderer spanto in design. I see the tanto as being a great slicer and it has served me well in that regard, but for me, the point is basically worthless and I use the points of my knives alot for opening boxes, cutting cardboard, woodworking, etc....... Its tough to beat the original zaan design overall and I still would like to get the updated version without the lockbar stop.
