hohohohohhh.....whoa.......

(to be continued.....)

Okeedoke...we'll stay tuned. :D It's a great knife. Mine didn't stick with me, but that was a preferences issue, not because there's anything in the world wrong the with knife.

I wanted to carry this thing for awhile before I posted any comments. The one thing that I am most impressed with is the creativity of its features. The ceramic ball detent? Where did that come from? I'm still a little concerned about the security of the lock-up, but that is a brilliant idea. The way I see it, the contact point of the ball provides a slightly variable lock-up point of resistance that is countered by the soft urethane rings on the thumbstud/blade stops. But how is there absolutely no blade play in the open position between these two opposite stops? Brilliant.

The balance of the thing is spot on. The only way the ergonomics of the handle would be better is if the slabs were slightly wider/thicker - does anyone know if CR plans on putting inlays in future 'Zaans? Not necessarily for looks, but adding some micarta would help fill your hand.

The size is excellent. It "looks" like a big knife, but "feels" smaller. No problems carrying or controlling this guy. It's not bulky or awkward in your pocket like I thought it might be. Any larger I think and it would poke me as I move from sitting to standing throughout the day. As it is, I almost forget I'm carrying it. I don't think I'll carry it in dress slacks, but everything else is fair game.

It is the smoothest opening knife I've ever used. Not the fastest, definitely - but the ease of opening as you gently run your thumb vertically up the thumbstud cutout is minimal - amazing engineering. Just to make sure, I had my wife and 9-year old son try it. WOW was all I got back.

Holding the knife sideways in a scraping or skinning grip is very secure. The massive pivot provides a very nice thumb rest for good blade control. I've already used the ramps on the back of the blade to help "choke-up" my finger grip for more delicate cuts, like scraping some residue off a camp plate. I'm not planning on attacking a refrigerator, but I imagine that the swedge would make punching through tough material a breeze.

I haven't opened up the knife to clean it yet, but that's next. Gotta get some grit out today.

All in all, this is an amazing tool. Not quite as hand filling as say, and XM-18, but outstanding nonetheless. I love my Sebenza's, but this knife is crying to get carried and used. I'll have to post some pic's as time allows.

again....whoa...

nobody knows about inlays, and if you ask CRK they say they don't have any plans.... Yeah, like they would tell me :D
