I emailed a forum member about the umnun vs. the sebbie. He made this

statement "I think some folks will find the umnun a little too much vs. the

sebenza and I dont mean price-wise". I think I know what he is saying. What

do you think he means?!

He's probably refering to the fact that the Umnumzan is a fairly large knife.

The Umnumzaan has a little more "heft" to it (5oz vs 4.7oz) and the blade is a little beefier than a large Seb.

It's not much bigger that a lage seb at all and actually feels a little less obvious in the pocket IMO.
The styling of the knife is a bit of a different story though, it does look quite aggressive next to a Seb. I think.

I'm sure it is too much for some folks just like any other knife....i don't believe there is a knife out there that will fit everyone's taste....personally, after collecting so many sebenza's for years....the Zann is a refreshing addition.

The Sebenza is a great knife as is the Zaan, for years to come...i'm sure.

I don't understand all the comparison instead of just being happy that CRK has now givin us another option. :)

I think that confusion arises over the fact that the sebenza has been the benchmark for neary 2 decades and now CRK has brough out the Umnum and many don't see it as that much more innovative. Many see it as just another tactical (read mall ninjaish) over priced hunk of steel and ti and don't see the advantage over the subtle simplicty and gentlemens like auroa a sebbie exudes.

There is also some dissent over the fact the umnum does not use a pivot bushing system, somthing that many, including me, feel is a 'downgrade' for the umnum.

Saying that having a sebbie in my pocket and a brand spakin new Umnum in my hand I will say that the umnum is by far much more ergonomic than any sebenza is and seems to fit my hand and lifestyle a bit better. I still feel that the Umnumzaan should come with the service kit (whats another $15 added to a an already steep price tag, if I'm going to shell out the $400 I'm not going to mind a few more to get the service kit provided.

I dunno why you quoted me....your post has nothing to do with my comments/opinions.

Your just another complaining about the pivot, tool price etc.....

The things you complain of are addressed in other threads.

That's the other thing i don't understand...why people post about repetitive crap. :jerkit: Next time try the search function...it's a useful tool.

get your panties out of a wad!

Sorry but I can't use the search as I'm not important enough to have those privalages!

What I don't understand is why people get so insulted when someone tries to answer your question!:jerkit:

You said you did not understand all of the comparison and that people should be happy that there is now another option, well my post pretty much was directed directly at this statement. If you don't understand the difference and the feelings of those with such concerns then you won't be able to understand all of the quote comparison posts!

next time try to refrain from being a jerk if you don't agree!

I was trying to be polite when i said i don't understand, what i really meant was why whiners like you just don't stick with the sebi and save all the tear's in a good beer.c;)

BTW...You speak well, but forgetting to use your spell check ruins it. :D

You also have many posts, if you can afford a 400 dollar knife you should also be able to afford a 10 dollar tool and a 25 dollar membership and you 2 can be important enough to use the search function. :)

"I think some folks will find the umnun a little too much vs. the sebenza and I dont mean price-wise".

As stated in other post I believe some folks will think it is a "bit much" because of the blade profile, or weight. It is actually not much more than a Large Sebenza in any dimension (including price). In the Umnum's case height, length, width, and weight or even price do not tell the whole story. The Umnumzaan has something that is "more" than the Sebenza IMO. This "more" is not something that I can point too and say "Here it is! Check here and you will find 'the more'." Maybe it is the simplicity of the 2 screw construction, maybe it is the giant pivot, maybe it is the ball-in-lock, I do not know what it is, but IMO it is "more"

For others the Umnumzaan is "less". They point to the missing pivot bushing and say "See it is less, it is a downgrade." I do not see it. I do not understand the absolute need for a pivot bushing in a pivot that is as large as the Umnumzaan's. If I understand the engineering behind the bushing, it was not to allow us to torque our screws down w/out penalty. It was to allow for an easy smooth opening. My Umnumzaan was buttery smooth from day one. It has only improved with time. I have taken apart my Umnumzaan many times switching between the CF and factory scales. I have always found the sweet spot in the pivot screw within seconds. In fact I will say that having 1 fewer screw the Umnumzaan might be faster to assemble/disassemble than the Sebenza.

No matter how you personally view the Umnumzaan, people should recognize that it is a winner. Even if the Umnumzaan is not for them personally, people should see that it is well designed and constructed (hallmarks of CRK).

I cannot wait until CRK offers some embellishments for the Umnumzaan, it is only then that we will be able to judge its ability to "dressed up". If you compare a Plan Large Sebenza 21 to a stock Umnumzaan, I would say the Umnumzaan has more personality. This is not true once you start "outfitting" the Sebenza with options.

Well to me the sebenza's simple good looks are what makes me love it. Now on the Umnumzaan I like some of the things about it, but the look of scales and the pivot turn me off a little. They just are not me. What I would like is the ball lock on a sebenza and maybe the thumbstuds/lockbar of the zaan. Anyways they are both awesome knifes and if it wasnt for college I would have both and not just my plain Lg. 21.

The Umnumzaan IS a better knife than the Sebenza if you are looking for a hard work knife or defensive knife, end of story.

It has a more threatening profile than the Sebenza, has a beefier blade, and people often conclude it is huge compared to the large Sebenza.

Is the uman faster to open than the sebe? I don't necessarily mean flicking, but a little speedier opening.

I find the sebbies a tad bit faster, but mine is still stiff as its new. But when I was in the store I tried several Large 21's and 2 Umnum's and even new I found the sebs faster and easier to open. I was debating on getting another seb or the zaan, and in the end it was the buttery smooth feel and the new lock that persuaded me to go with zaan.
