I got a new umnun a few days ago. The lockup is 75+% . Its VERY hard to

release the lock bar with tip of my forefinger and a LOT harder with my

thumb. Im using it now a an edc but its not fun to use the way it is!! Im

going to call CRK tomorrow to see what they can do for me.

To those of you that have an umnun what % of lockup do you have? Is it

near 75% .... if so do you wish it was less lockup and easier to release???!!

My caution is that when you talk about percentage lockup, state your assumptions.

With most integral locks (framelocks, if you prefer that term), the reference is leading edge of the lock bar as it moves behind the blade -- 50% means that the leading edge moves to travel 1/2 of the back of the blade. This is a good reference for the classic integral lock, because it's that leading edge that typically makes contact with the back of the blade.

With the Umnumzaan, the lockbar contacts the blade via the ball, which is not centered on the leading edge of the lockbar. Therefore, the equivalent lockup of an Umnumzaan with respect to a classic integral lock is with the Umnumzaan's leading edge traveling further across the blade. For example, a Sebenza lockup at 50% might be comparabe to the Umnumzaan lockup at 75% -- contact CRK for the official guideline . . .

Ive tried a new thumb position on the lockbar.3/8 in. down on the lockbar

where it(the lockbar) starts to get wider....thumb at 45% angle at the

thumb cuticle....at little stiff but i should get used to it.Works fine.

Zephy5 maybe you should give this a try!

Mine is like yours (75%) out of the box and it doesn't bother me. On a normal framelock you want less engagement to account for wear, but with a ceramic ball mating to a hardened blade you won't get much wear over the years. There is no break in and the lock likely won't move perceptably in our lifetimes.

About the lock disengageing, I prefer it's harder to disengage. You need to consider that the ceramic ball won't stick to the blade like a ti framelock can. This means having more tension on the lock makes for a safer one.

Long story short, use and abuse that knife and don't worry about it

My Umnumzaan is right about 75% and I don't find it too hard to unlock.

I push down on the lockbar (up near the pivot where the groove is) and then push over. It gives plenty of traction and it isn't painful at all.

My Umnumzaan has absolutely no resistance at all when I disengage the lock. The lock up on my knife is about 50% if you look
where the detent sits. It will travel over so the detent is touching the other side when I grip it really hard or stab with it though.

Mine is 75% and is harder to move compared to other frame (integral) locks.
