just wondering if anybody has ever taken out the spring in the leek.

im thinkin i should finally pick one up. mabey pick up a couple and make one of them manual.

i dont have anything against assisted openers, per-se. i just dont care to impress or frighten any sheep

The Leek doesn't detent closed. Makes you wonder wtf the ball detent is there for in the first place. But I don't think it'll stay closed like a regular knife would. The Leek stays closed because of the torsion bar.

hmm, that sucks.

...detent ball is probabbly there to keep the lock bar from scratching the blade.

o well

the leek will not stay closed if you only take out the torsion bar.

you would have to do some other modifications to add a detent. may have to punch or mill in a detent in the blade and mabey swap out for a bigger ball. (the existing "detent" ball in the lock bar is relatively small for detent work.)

its not a Leek, but pretty close.

AG Russell sells a NON-ASSISTED version of the Kershaw Splinter, which to me looks pretty much like a Leek with handle scales.

Edit: Actaully looking at a few other sights (New Graham ect.) maybe the Splinter is always non-assisted. Seems to jst be a fancy, non-assisted Leek.

And they are nice knives, a friend of mine got his brother one for his birthday, and I checked it out. Very smooth.

the splinter is a beautiful knife.
i think the main difference is
splinter: $74
leek: $40

i would get one but i just dropped $400 on textbooks last month.

The ball detent is part of the safty. There should be as slideable screw which engages the safty and makes it impossible to open the blade. Very cool actually. The screw might stick a little bit like on my Spec Bump or might be a bit difficult to slide.

The ball sinks into a little hole in the blade and locks it. At least that's how it works on the Bump

I hope I have explained that more or less correctly, Thomas?

This is what I encountered on my Avalanche. I had to cut a slot in the blade for the detent ball to rest in. It worked and I am pleased with the end results.
