So I've decided to finally take the plunge and spend a little more on some nice burl handles. I know $12-$20 isnt much for handles, but I just wasn't ready yet. But I have a question. I'm looking at a cherry burl for only $8 for a bookmatched set of scales, but they are labeled as "not dried". Do I need to dry them out for 50 years  or is there other ways around this?

I would stay clear of un-dried scales. They will very likely warp in drying. About a year an inch of thickness is the norm. Blocks are far safer. Just cut them in half once dried and you have bookmatched scales.

Looks like ill get a few sets of thuya burl then. I dont want tto mess with that. Thanks for the info stacy.
