I recently received a knife that has had its g10 scale RIT dyed black. I cant find any thread that describes taking OFF the color dye from the scale. Is this even possible and if it is anybody have any tips? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

G10 is resistant to chemicals and stains. Any dye will not have penetrated deeply and will eventually wear off.

I have cleaned stains from G10 using a 'Magic Eraser' pad and water without damage to the G10's finish. Try that first. Add hot soap-n-water if needed.

RIT does sell a dye removing agent but I'd hold off on that for now.

I have a RIT dyed camo G10 that is considerably lighter than when I first got it. It will eventually wear off.

Maybe re-dye it in the color you want?
You cannot dye lighter, only darker. Once it hits black, any dye will only make it blacker.

That's why RIT sells the 'color remover' for fabrics. It acts like a bleach and can remove the original color if you're not careful.

OK thanks for the responses. I will try the magic eraser and if that doesnt work I will just let it wear off with time.

I would try Travis' idea with the dye remover, made by rit.

Try it on an interior part of the scales if they are removable, if they are not, try it on the butt of the handle, or the underside, where the fingers cross the tang.

Yah, the more I think about it, the RIT color remover should work.

Since the original color is apart of the G10 itself and is solid color throughout and, combined with G10's resistance to chemicals, the 'bleaching' effect seen with fabrics should be a non-issue.

But test it as NJBillKsaid, just in case. ;) Maybe a quick dunk then rinse.
