Hi folks, quick question from a new member. I bought a Gerber MarkII in the early 80's without a serrated blade. I can find NO info on this configuration anywhere on the net. All I know is that according to the serial # it was made in 1980. Have I been sitting on a rare knife for 20 years? Any info would be great. Thanks

The original Mark II's were not serrated but I'm afraid I don't know when they started serrating them.

IIRC the very first run of the mk 11 was not serrated, the the later ones were, i have a '69 model i bought new in '69 and its serrated, IIRC they did make some non serrated ones with black handles, and some with camo handles in the mid to late '80s, what color is the handle on your knife?? i will look and see if i can find the addy to a web site that has all the mk 11 info ya would ever need ie manufacturing dates/variations/etc, used to have it on my PC till it crashed.

as far as rarity, i guess it might be a little more scarce than a std one but imho would be worth only a small premium, the really desirable ones are the viet nam era ones ie pre '72 or so, a bud had a set of matching mk 1, mk 11 and a guardian, mk 11 in this case not serrated all with camo handles, i think he still has them.

Thanks for the link. Although it only makes me more curious. According to the MarkII production summary knives in my serial # range all had coarse serrations.

Where did you buy your knife? Is there any clue that it could have been a special version?

I bought the knife at a small gun shop in the chicago suburbs. After seeing the movie "Road Warrior" my best friend and I just had to have Mark II's. There is nothing to indicate that this was a custom order or run. We asked if he had any unserrated mk's and he said only a few. That's pretty much all I remember. (over 20 years ago). This is starting to drive me buggy.
Bernard....HELLLLLLLLLLLP, I'm going insane

I have a non-serrated wasp gerber mark II that came new with a cordura sheath- the production chart listed says my seriall number (begins with XX) should have a leather sheath...I think there may be more variation than is on this serial number list- it would appear to be a good list for dates though...

my serial # is 090168, black armorhide handle, polished blade, black leather sheath with web belt hanger
