I gave a chopweiler to one of my good friends, who is a gunsmith and retired SEAL (no, really). I stripped and convexed it, and we have been using it to whack rope in his shop. It is hair-splitting sharp.
The edge retention has always been outstanding, especially against the manila rope, but this year he took it to Virginia on his annual deer hunt. He skinned 3 deer with it, and butchered 1, including cutting through the rib cage.
It still shaved hair, and went right through the 1.5" rope like butter. Had some light surface rust from being in deer blood for a few hours. I cleaned it up with 2000 grit sandpaper, then 2500 grit and compounds, and it is right back to a hair-splitter.
Un-freakin' real.
