I was browsing his page after seeing a link on another post, and I discovered that they offers anvils. His site (www.riversidemachine.net) says they're made in Louisiana out of 4140 steel, and the price listed isn't too bad compared to some new anvils I've seen ($4.50 a pound new for 150#). I'm looking for an anvil for occasional bladesmithing.

Anyone have any ideas or experience with one of these anvils? I'm still searching for a good used anvil, but may jump on a new one if the price is right.

Here's the anvil: http://www.riversidemachine.net/item581823.ctlg

I believe that they are an Emerson anvil, excelent quality. Haven't used one but have Been to Al's and seen them worked with and the new one's as well. I want one myself, but have to make due with what I have atm. Have not heard any thing bad about them.

Nathan, holler at Chuck Robinson and get his 90#... I bought one at Batsons for $200 the stand is an additional $175. The anvil rebounds like it's a 300#

I bought one of the 150# Emerson anvils from Al about six months ago. I have been very happy with it.

Emerson Horseshoe Supply is located just out of Shreveport, LA. I have one of the 200# and stand. I got mine last year. I drove up from Houston rather than pay the shipping. They took me around the shop and showed me the process they used to make the anvils. I was very impressed and am very satisfied with the anvil. I don't think the stands can be beat. They are good people to deal with and no I am not related to them.:)

Question...
Do these anvils have flat faces or are they convex somewhat? Another question...are the edges rounded?
