I recall you saying you kind of went to Nepal to find yourself, and I'm vague about whether you went there to learn Buddhism or what.
In any case, as I understand it,apparently Buddha's father's kingdom was near modern day Nepal, his mother's country was also close, and it was the custom for women with child to return to their parent's home to give birth. His mother was on the trip back home, and called for a rest at Lumbini Park which now is inside the boundaries of modern Nepal, and ended up giving birth there.
I also hear that it wasn't until Burmese UN secretary general U Thant got things going circa 1967 that excavations searching for Buddha's birthplace unearthed Lumbini Park. Did you ever get into India to see any other significant sites to the development of Buddhism? In Nepal? If so, what were they? If I'm out of line, so be it, but Buddhism is part of the culture, so I ask about it.
