Here are the first attempts by the kamis to make "thin" khukuris and they are having a hard time coming to grips with "thin" as I thought they might. A thin blade is in direct opposition to their philosophy of "thick blades don't bend or break, thin ones do." But this is good news for forumites because they are going to be discounted.

These 18 inch Sirupatis that came in are excellently done but they are still oversize -- 5/16 thick and weigh 1.25 pounds, a little over one ounce per inch. But they are still very light and quick -- close to a Kobra. The fit is about as good as a kami can get and the finish is magic stone mirror. The hardness is 59 or 60 Rc. Scrollwork and brass inlay are very, very good. Handles are beautiful and well done. Karda and chakma excellent. Scabbard made and tooled by sarki with no name and super HI superfrogs. These khukuris are going to have to rate at least 9.9 out of ten.

So, how much for these thick "thin" khukuris? We will deliver them to your door for $75 with full guarantee. That's about a 35 or 40 buck savings as I figure it. And, stay tuned. I think we will see a few more tried before the kamis can ever bring themselves to get down into the 1/4 and 3/16 range and these are going to be deals of the day, too.

Call or email if interested. As usual, first come, first served.

I got one similiar to these about a week ago.If you have doubts about their chopping ability, imagine a cold steel ltc that dosent stick in the wood.I felled a few good sized trees and the thin handle held up perfectly. You wont be disapointed.

I'll gladly pay you Tuesday, for a khukuri today.

They are not the "thin" we wanted but they are really well done and quite light for an HI offering outside of the Kobra line. And, as Robert testified, they will do some very heavy work for such a light knife -- if a 1.25 lbs knife is light. We all think like the BirGorkha kamis!

You keep using plural Uncle Bill. How many do you have at that price?

Gregg

And you didn't say if they were marked by any particular kami, by several, or not marked at all.

I'll take the one in the picture! It may not look so pretty for long because this one is going to be put to work!

Just in time to grab that last one!

As I told Uncle Bill, I avoided opening this forum in the past because I'm already spending too much on knives. I finally took a peek in here yesterday, and here I go buying already. You know, for a "free" site, BladeForums sure costs me a lot of money!

I'm still watching for agricultural implements rather than martial arts tools, but dayum, that's pretty and at that price, I might have broken down and bought it if I had been on at the right time rather than up all night the previous night.

It was nice of you guys to save me.

Well, the Sirupati came today. Within five or ten minutes of opening the package I knew I had made a serious mistake in buying this knife. (Bill straightens in his chair, alarmed). As you can see in the thread, I asked Bill how many of these he had. He answered "three, maybe four." Now the question I have to ask myself is why did I then respond by saying "I'll take ONE?" What was I thinking? I should have taken at least two. Maybe I should have just bought the whole lot!

Initial impressions: longer than I thought it would be. It is slightly longer than my Sher 18" AK and within a half inch or so of my Gelbu Special. Beautiful finish, nice inlays. I like that wood. And the karda is actually sharp (a first for me). The knife itself isn't quite sharp enough to take handfuls of hair off my arm but a few left. Much sharper than the Gelbu Special I got last month. The blade has the star on it so I've got still another one by Kumar. The scabbard is tooled with a picture of a dragon. The frog is super heavy duty, the strongest one I've gotten so far.

The feel of the knife puts that monster Sher 18" AK of mine to shame. It is still plenty thick to be a serious knife but it is much more agile in the hand, even more so than my GS. Excluding the Kumar Karda, this is the least expensive knife I've ever purchased from you Uncle Bill but I believe it is the nicest. $75!! Why didn't I buy more?! These aren't "good enough?" Good enough for whom?

Mine arrived in yesterday's mail. Beautiful! I'm very impressed with the knife in general, and when you consider the price - wow! A big, beautiful, hand-made knife for less than I've paid for dinky little mass-produced folders. This is my first HI khukuri, but I seriously doubt it will be my last. (That tarwar from a couple of days ago looked mighty sweet too. . .) Thanks Uncle Bill!

Osiyo Bro.
I am posting here instead of the other thread where you asked the question about the little village model's hardness.
We have been powwowing the last 2 days and will again tomorrow.
Monday when things sorta get back to normal I will run my little Nicholson over the blade and let you know about how hard the Rc is on it.

I been dancing my arse off and loving it. I have an old friend who is non-indin, but has many Indin relatives tell me once that if he had a million dollars that he could lay on the Drum that it wouldn't even begin to pay back what he had been gifted with from the Old Ways.
Even though he is non-indin he has been given a Sweatlodge for the people and used to be very active in the Native American Church.
I Know Exactly what he meant!!!
