So, today is the first time I have really had a little time to devote to my new BK-20, with my retirement & all. I decided to make a D-ring swivel for it. It has only been unsheathed by me, so i know for a fact I didn't do this, but the sheath is cut, almost exactly where the D-ring is gonna sit, only on the side a lefty would use. I am not a lefty. (not that there is anything wrong with that, lol) . I really wouldn't care & would usually just sew it but 1 side is the side with the hard plastic inside it & I can't get a needle to go through it. I have tried, even with pliers on the needle. 4 needles later it still wont work.

Is it possible Ka-Bar still has a sheath for this limited production knife ? I would gladly send them the one that came with it, back for inspection. I know sheaths are not made here, but I am hoping I can still get one. I like to use the stock sheaths as long as possible before going custom.

Any input from Uncle Ethan would be most appreciated. :D Thanks

Interesting. I would also like to see pictures. I am sure kabar will work things out with you, either way.

That's odd. I'm confident Uncle E/Ka-Bar will render you satisfied.

What about using a drill to make a small hole and thread the needle through that?
You can use as small of a bit as you can find, even a 3/64" would give some clearance. To melt the frayed sheath, use a lighter or a soldering iron.

Hell, with a fine enough tip, you could probably use just a soldering iron and poke the holes for your needle.

Peculiar tear, I hope you are able to get it sorted out.

Also, because of the location. in reference to the D-ring, I think repair is a losing battle. Waiting on Uncle Ethans input.

Edit: I also e-mailed Ka-Bar tonight with the question of getting a new sheath.

My bk20 was very hungry during its three day trip to my house. It chewed its way through the cardboard blade protector and nibbled the sheath a bit. The spot mine chewed is not along the edge of the sheath and a bic lighter should prevent any further fraying of material. Was your cardboard blade protector intact when you received the knife?

My knife was in the sheath & snapped when I received it. I know that is not common but it is what it is. All my other ones were in the cardboard sleeve but not the BK-20. Maybe some inquiring person took a look-see during transit, I really don't know. The cardboard sleeve was there but the knife was in the sheath & snapped in when I received it. This is not my first knife either. I have 100's. I am not new to the knife thing. I generally would not complain but i like the stock sheaths & with my mods, they work great for me when wearing it & working outside. Plus, being a special 1 of 450 & a retirement present to myself, after 28.3 years of the worst job on the planet, I would like to have a sheath that was not destined to fail right off the bat.

I've gotten in a few fives lately that had a cardboard sheath that was too small for the blade and the last half inch of blade was poking out.

I'm not stressing over this, it is what it is. If all else fails, I guess a custom sheath is in my future. I'm retired now. No more stress. LOL :D

i can think of several ways of fixing that. go for it :D

Will it fit the BK-20 Murph ?

If so, thats a mighty fine offer. I'll take it, if you are SURE you don't need/want it. Let me know & how you want to do this.

Yep, I'm all set on 20 sheaths. PM me your addy and I'll get it out in the next couple days.

I posted a message on your message board. Let me know if you get it please.:thumbup:
